Critics have found a number of ways to describe Sony Pictures new adaptation of Beatrix Potters mischievous yet beloved bunny, Peter Rabbit. The modern Peter Rabbit is a frat bro, a raging narcissist, a vandal that escalates a feud into a truly sadistic display of violence.
Now, the bunny character has been billed as something else a food allergy bully.
The scene prompted intense backlash from allergy advocacy groups and parents of children with food allergies, who said it mocked an attack that in real life could have proved fatal. The segment led to a hashtag #boycottpeterrabbit and an online petition demanding an apology.

Thank God for the books.
I recall Redd Foxx in Sanford and Son making fun of heart attack victims.
We are going to go see the movie Tuesday night. I need to see where we can find some rabbit meat, sure would make a good dinner. Been years...
I was surprised to see this as a movie, since the book wasn’t very long. They did the same with “Chicken Little”; I suspect a LOT of filler has to be added to make a feature-length movie from those books. I guess that gives Hollyweird plenty of space to indoctrinate the young minds targeted by this stuff.
Hopefully the box office will suck.
I don’t know; all I can tell you about the movie at this point is that it offended somebody in terms of food allergies. Maybe its OK? My children are too old for this now, so I won’t be seeing it; ten years ago, I’d at least read up on it and consider taking them.
In other news, Warner Brothers is apologizing for Bugs Bunny putting TNT in Yosimite Sam’s piano.
Many productions make ‘gluten-free’ sound like a uppity, funny line for a snob or other arrogant character to say. It always invites disdain and ridicule from the audience.
In reality, gluten allergies are as real and as life threatening as any other.
Anything for a laugh, right?
Hey, let’s show some kids inducing an epileptic fit in another child by using a strobe light!!!
Disney’s Zootopia, Judy Hopps’ dad is named Stu. Ha, Rabbit Stu...
I remember when EVERYONE enjoyed the Warner Bros. cartoons.
They were violent, irreverent, a bit risque at times, but they were FUNNY!
Some of the most violent cartoons I ever saw were Tom and Jerry and The Ant and the Aardvark. But they were FUNNY!
What is wrong with people that they can’t laugh at THEMSELVES anymore?
Ha ha ha ha...
Not to mention apologizing to all aliens for wanting to make an earth shattering kaboom.
Why have the numbers of people with celiac-like ‘disease’ increased to the point where there is now a gluten-free section in all supermarkets? This is a serious question.
Close relative had terrible reactions to a lot of foods, especially grains. They added a plant enzyme supplement before meals (like Beano) and all the symptoms immediately disappeared.
Back in the early 70’s, I was going through a rough patch, emotionally. On the advice from a relative who had tried it herself, I went through a food-elimination protocol in a hospital. I was in my late 20s. I tested as allergic to a huge laundry list of foods. I followed a strict diet for 18 months, during which time my personal situation improved tremendously. I began adding food groups back to my diet with no problems and within 6-8 weeks was again eating normally, ie: whatever I wanted of foods commonly available.
Did the elimination regime ‘cure’ me? Was I simply having a gut reaction due to emotional problems? Don’t know. But, excepting anaphylaxis, most food reactions are minor. My personal feeling now, nearly 50 years later? We can control food intake, while many personal aspects of our lives seem out of our personal control. So, we turn to food regimentation in an attempt to gain control.
Anecdote, not data and, as always, YMMV.
So now there is a new victimhood: those with food allergies.
Did that include Tide pods?
Did that include Tide pods?"
