HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) Republican leaders of the Pennsylvania Legislature on Friday produced a new proposed map of the state's congressional districts, three weeks after the state Supreme Court declared the former map unconstitutional.
The proposal drafted by House Speaker Mike Turzai and Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati would make widespread changes, eliminating dozens of municipal and county divisions while keeping nearly 70 percent of residents in their old districts.
They forwarded the map and other materials to Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf, who has until Thursday to tell the justices if he supports it. If not, the court has indicated it will develop its own map.
Scarnati's top aide, Drew Crompton, told reporters he was confident the draft met standards outlined in the majority opinion released two days earlier.

“”The unknown at this point is what kind of partisan split could be predicted from these districts,” said House Democratic spokesman Bill Patton. “A 9-9 balance in a state like this would be fairest.”
The Republican leaders said their map splits only 32 counties and municipalities, 62 fewer than the 2011 map. It maintains a majority-minority district in Philadelphia and increases the minority numbers in a second city district.”
Typical.
Democrats trying to steal a few districts so they can try to take back the House this year.
How can a COURT be allowed to draw a legislative district map? Talk about legislating from the bench!
Does the PA legislature have a holding cell under the building?
That’s where this judge belongs until he gets over himself.
What kind of a standard is that? If the Democrat Governor doesn't like it the Democrat controlled Court will draw its own map? If the legislature passed a constitutional map, that should be the end of it as they have the ultimate authority to draw the maps.
Map at this address.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has already hired a far-left pinko Commie Democrat Activist “law professor” to draw their map for them.
The map looks pretty damned reasonable to me. Since it likely doent MASSIVELY benefit the RATS, the RAT governor is likely not to approve it and therefore kick the job to the RAT judges. Of course, that was likely the plan to begin with.
A court cannot legally develop its own map, it is not the executive.
The injustice here is that wiki shows the PA House and Senate are both with a republican majority.
Will the PA House and Senate be able to appeal to the "U.S." Supreme if the PA Governor or PA Court insist on map favoring democrats?
The PA Governor was recently labelled as the most liberal in the nation by an DemoKKKrat activist organization.
The courts cannot claim the powers accorded to the legislature.
Judges have been claiming and asserting powers they don't have for decades. This is generally termed judicial activism. Legislatures at both state and federal levels have allowed judges to act unconstitutionally. We never see unconstitutional judicial actions (judicial activism) challenged by the other branches.
IMHO, what's needed to stop this nonsense is a President, Governor or legislature saying to an activist court's decision, "No, the constitution does not give you the power to make that decision. Your decision is unconstitutional and it is null and void. Further attempts to incur on powers assigned to the executive or legislature will be considered sedition and dealt with accordingly." This would cause a so-called constitutional crisis but that's what's needed. So far, our legislatures and executives have allowed our courts to be activist with impunity. We need an executive or legislature to step up and tell the Emperor (activist court) that he has no clothes.
Bummed because we are no longer in Tom Marino’s 10th District - now Pike County is in the 17th. Wondering if Moscow where the current 17th Dist DEM lives is in the district or if we are having a special election?????
