WASHINGTON Rachel L. Brand, the No. 3 official at the Justice Department, plans to step down after nine months on the job as the countrys top law enforcement agency has been under attack by President Trump, according to two people briefed on her decision.
Ms. Brands profile had risen in part because she is next in the line of succession behind the deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, who is overseeing the special counsels inquiry into Russian influence in the 2016 election. Mr. Trump, who has called the investigation a witch hunt, has considered firing Mr. Rosenstein.
Such a move could have put her in charge of the special counsel and, by extension, left her in the cross hairs of the president.

LOL...she chickened out.
“left her in the cross hairs of the president.”
F’n NYT. I despise these people. I don’t agree that Rosenstein’s days are numbered. When he wasn’t dumped after the memo came out along with the story he threatened house members that told me the little weasel is going nowhere.
Or maybe she isn’t willing to do what must be done. She was appointed by GW Bush and Obama to different jobs and then by Trump to this one, so he obviously was told she was pretty hot s#it. But in her wiki I find this: “In 2015, Brand expressed support for revised guidelines issued by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, arguing that they represented a welcome shift in the intelligence community away from what she termed its historical “reflexive secrecy.”
Even if her position is right, supporting Clapper is troublesome. Did she just want to “get along”?
And “Brand dissented from several recommendations included in the PCLOB’s 2014 report on NSA’s bulk metadata collection program under section 215 of the USA PATRIOT Act. She declined to join in the Board’s view that the program was illegal as a statutory matter and argued that, in policy terms, it struck a justifiable balance between privacy and national security and, as such, should not be discontinued”
Sounds deep-statish. Good riddance.
UMMMM yeah, now that I click on the article, I see it’s for WALMART, one of the largest companies in the world. Heck, yeah, they probably offered her quite a fortune to take that job.
Here is what the website abovethelaw.com said GCs averaged in 2013 (and Walmart is probably at the top of the scale):
Average base salary: $656,607, up 7.4 percent.
Average bonus: $1,117,400, up 50 percent.
Average bonus plus nonequity incentive compensation: $1,197,065, up 6.4 percent.
Average stock option award: $888,313, up 21 percent.
Average stock award: $2,350,219, up 64.8 percent.
In Russia, Boss drains Swamp.
In Amerika, Swamp drains itself.
No, she is going to make the BIG BIG bucks with Walmart (see my last comment).
<< Swamp starting to drain itself? >>
Let us hope this voluntary walk out does not preclude charges, prosecutions, and JAIL TIME.
Complicity in an obvious coup attempt, in our highest places, ought to be sniffed out and count for something. These people need to be chased down, grilled to the nines, investigated and charged.
And? So she has family issues. I know Dems in office I hate that have family issues but I dont hold personal grudges against them. Get over it
That could be. It could also be that she didn’t think she was qualified for the spot that might open up. It might also be a result of her not wanting to take that much time away from her family.
I know some of those sound like lame excuses, but some folks don’t want top dog positions of this caliber.
Being there only nine months, I’m not sure what she could have soiled herself with to this point. I guess that is possible too though.
> Swamp starting to drain itself? <
I dont think so. She was appointed by Trump. I would hope that Trump would not appoint a swamp creature. But who knows?
><><
I read that she accepted a “dream job” with a Fortune 500 company. Smart move, a lot more money.
No way. I thought she was a Goddess.
If Sessions is recused and Rosenstein leaves, that would put the pressure of draining the swamp on her. Perhaps she doesn't want to deal with that. Who needs that.
That's my guess.
I agree. If you were offered a top position that garanteed you would be an accesory to multiple crimes just by holding the title, wouldnt you find a better offer?
The spin in this article is brazenly stupid.
>Who’s next in line...
I think they’re creating a void in the DOJ.
Rod Rosenweasel’s job has always had Jessica’s name on it.
The DC district AG.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON NEWS DUMP!!
She was appointed to something by Obama, though. That reflects very badly on her, though I’m no expert. The timing of this seems very suspicious.
Harvard and U. Of Minnesota educated, Bush League creds, and served under the muh-ssiah, #44.
Did she play softball?
