Trump prefers oral report to reading daily intel briefing: report
The Hill ^ | February 9, 2018 | JACQUELINE THOMSEN

President Trump is declining to read his daily brief and is instead having officials orally brief him on certain issues, The Washington Post reported Friday.

Trump is breaking with precedent set by seven past presidents in choosing to rarely read the daily briefing, which includes what officials have deemed to be the most important U.S. intelligence from hot spots around the globe.

Reading the report is not Trump's chosen "style of learning," one source told The Post.

Is that the way Trump made his billions?

Because Trump has said he doesn’t need a briefing every day.

I'm saying the Washington ComPost is not a reliable source of anything. Even if the "report" is true in so far as it goes, it is probably NOT the "whole truth".

That said, President North Mountain would want in person intelligence briefs. President North Mountain would want to be able to question and discuss the matter with the briefer.

What is relevant to some is crap to others. I think the Rob Porter is important. You probably don’t.

If he gets an oral briefing he can ask for clarifications and dig deeper than if he just had it on paper. There’s also less chance of misinterpretation.

Does it matter?

It would matter to me. Reports and summaries are prepared by staffers. You get a lot more information in a face-to-face oral briefing. For instance, how well the people you rely on actually know what they are doing.

Maybe he’s dyslexic. Maybe he hates to read. Maybe he’s best at delegating. Why don’t presidents write their own speeches?

You don’t remember what Trump said about the daily briefings before he took office?

I assume that if Trump is getting a oral report then if he has an immediate question then he gets an immediate answer? And if he read it while alone then getting answers to his questions would take more time?

I was an avid reader until I had cataract surgery (both eyes) in 2007.

I no longer enjoy reading books or magazine articles, computer a bit different and stuff like this site - no matter how long - doesn’t seem to give me a whole lot of problems..

Also my attention span probably isn’t anywhere near it was 10 years ago, I ‘sluff’ it off to age but I am sure much more technical than that.

I was pretty much AMAZED when in 2014 at 75 the State of Virginia renewed my Drivers License for 8 years AND I didn’t leave the computer.

I realize I may be the ‘exception’(HA HA) but even I am surprised no one even wanted to lay an eyeball on me.

From some of the people of my age I have seen, it scares me that the state would do that....I guess having never been charged in an accident and only about 6 tickets 50+ years with the last one in 1997 had something to do with it. (I didn’t include the 2 DUI 1983 & 1990).

Been driving for 60 years and have NEVER used my Auto Insurance.

Not sure if people realizes how repetitive these briefings can be.

Monday: and the Chinese are still spying on us.
Tuesday: and the Chinese are still spying on us.
Wednesday: and the Chinese are still spying on us.

“Being briefed orally allows questions and answers - more interactive and potentially more informative.”

I agree. President Trump is much more engaged.

Obama didn’t even get out of bed until after 10am. He looked to the msn for all his daily briefing.

I would make them come into my office at 0700 every morning and verbally deliver their report. That way I could corner them with questions in the moment and discern if anyone is jerking me around. And no junior officers either. Head of NSC, JCS, CIA, NSA, FBI. 0700 every stinkin’ mornin’. They will leave their written report when we’re done.

Somewhere along the line, our mentors must have crossed paths. A certain FA Colonel...?

.
An oral report is vastly superior to a written report.

One can ask questions on the fly to assure full understanding of the info conveyed.

If helpful, a written transcript of the meeting can be made and saved.

I like Trump’s method.

Trump seems to think they are. Of course GWB may not have paid much attention to them.
