San Francisco Bay Area Experiences Mass Exodus Of Residents

SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) – The number of people packing up and moving out of the Bay Area just hit its highest level in more than a decade.

Carole Dabak spent 40 years living in San Jose and now she’s part of the mass exodus that is showing no signs of slowing down.

The retired engineer’s packing up and calling it quits about to move to the state of Tennessee.

“I loved it here when I first got here. I really loved it here. But it’s just not the same,” Dabak said.

Of course people come and go from the Bay Area all the time, but for the first time in a long time, more people are leaving the Bay Area than are coming in. And the number one place in the country for out-migration is now, right here.

Russell Hancock with Joint Venture Silicon Valley said, “Silicon Valley has been this place that is growing. And it was mostly due to people relocating here and relocating from other parts of the world. That’s changing.”

Joint Venture Silicon Valley’s own study of the out-migration says workers are moving to Sacramento, Austin, and Portland due to a number of factors. But topping the list is the high cost of housing.

“You can’t even contemplate getting into the housing market here,” Hancock said. “And I don’t mean just service workers, but highly skilled professionals. The tech elite are having a hard time affording reasonable housing in Silicon Valley. That makes it difficult for employers to recruit.”

Operators of a San Jose U-Haul business say one of their biggest problems is getting its rental moving vans back because so many are on a one-way ticket out of town.

Dabak cites crowding, crime and politics as the reasons for her own exodus.

“We don’t like it here anymore. You know, we don’t like this sanctuary state status and just the politics,” she said.

She plans to sell her home for about $1 million, buy a much larger place near Nashville for less than half that and retire closer to family and friends.

You can’t change their minds. I have to listen to this crap every day here about NYC - even though there are conservatives here too.

They are convinced, from birth, to believe that Democrats are the protectors of human life and prosperity.....................

And do her best to vote and turn Tennessee into the same type of over-priced, Looney-Liberal PC-Hell sh___hole that San Francisco is.

And you don't know that. She may be a solid conservative.

Hey, I drove a Honda Civic 400,000 mile in central PA - rain, snow, ice. No problem, as long as you have aggressive winter tires in the winter. Without them, well, good luck!

The CA conservatives I know aren’t about to leave under any circumstance

That's odd. Nearly everyone we knew that bailed over the past 20 years were certainly not leftist.

Just one example, here in my own company.

A woman here just moved from California, after having lived there for 40+ years. Drives a Prius.

She runs a Internet business selling Cheap Chinese trinkets and junk.

She is as liberal as Hillary Clinton, whom she adores and voted for.

She left California for all the right reasons: High Taxes, Crime, Sanctuary cities, etc.

She still votes DEM.

Her adult children who visit from time to time are all Dems. and they want to leave as well.

So, it disproves the theory that only the conservatives are leaving.............

So you’re clearly suggesting these alleged liberals that are leaving CA are doing so because they hate leftist taxes and leftist policies?

Right?

It also disproves the theory that Dems are bright.

Based on who I know and who I have seen yes, they are. They do not connect their votes with the state of things in California. There is a mental disconnect that cannot be overcome. Republicans and Conservatives are evil devils and the Dems are angels. It is ingrained in their psyche and it cannot be changed........................

They move to a TEA party state and as quickly as possible, turn it into a tea bagger state.

That’s what you’re saying. All these liberals who are allegedly leaving CA because they can’t stand liberal taxes and liberal policies.

And you’re trying to convince me when they leave the state, they want those high taxes and liberal policies again.

Right?

Look, FReepers, this site itself is run by conservative Californians. Have you seen the voting in CA? The unenfranchised conservatives here exist. Look at the sheer numbers of us. We were gerrymandered and propositioned (with lying commercials to the Gullibles) and outnumbered by people who don’t even belong here. It’s offensive to act as though there aren’t lefties everywhere and as if those of us who want to leave, your fellow conservatives, are gong to ruin your states.

Amen to that. They'd probably reject Jim Robinson coming to their state.

Myself, I've already planned my exodus from NYS. I'm a year away from moving out.

And I would add about NYC, that on my fathers side of the family, many conservative voters left the southern part of Brooklyn for Florida. And they are now replaced in the northern part of Brooklyn by white leftist dee bag misfits who left where they grew up in the south and the midwest, and moved in up here.

Because they don’t have the intellectual capacity to prevail, usually.

Yeah a lot of people still think the Democrats are for the working class. Also a lot of liberals vote on social issues.

They’ve been invading Texas for years by bringing their lib ideas with them. They’ve never met a tax proposal they didn’t like. Austin, Dallas and Houston are now leftist hell holes.

Yes, they do not see the connection. They cannot process the actions of their votes for Dem pols and the high taxes and nanny state policies.

Somehow, they are convinced that Republicans and Conservatives are the source of their woes. Mainly because their Dem pols tell them that is what’s wrong. Just vote for them and they’ll make everything all better, but they don’t and then blame the Republicans for it.................
