White House tell agencies to prepare for shutdown as Rand Paul holds up key vote

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is preventing a two-year budget deal from passing, as the White House advised federal agencies to prepare for the government to start shutting down at midnight.

Congressional negotiators were scrambling earlier Thursday to lock in enough votes in the House, and that was before Paul, a Republican, made public his dissatisfaction with the deal, which would raise government spending, avert a government shutdown and lift the debt ceiling.

A senior administrative official said the White House is instructing agencies to begin shutdown preparations in the event that Congress fails to pass a budget before the midnight deadline.

THe deal was negotiated in secret between McConnell, Schumer, Pelosi, Ryan and their select representatives. Rand and other fiscal conservatives were cut out. He is not grandstanding, but speaking for us, who had no voice in giving away our kids future to the heavy burden of enormous debt.

There are times when I like Rand Paul, and there are times when I wish he would not let his Libertarian leanings get the better of him. This is one of those times for the latter. He’s going to singlehandedly keep me from going to work in the morning.

Once they took out the Bannon threat, McConnell and the rest of the congressional swamp were free and clear to get their old uniparty groove on.

But Rand Paul seems to always be the one out step with everyone else. Maybe there is a reason he is locked out of negotiations because no one can work with him. He and Corker probably have a life size picture of Napoleon in their bedroom.

"But like McCain, he hates Trump because he himself wanted to be Prez."

Garbage. You don't know what you're talking about.

Rand Paul was nearly killed. He helped save Scalise.

The Dems and Pubs have it out for him.

Why are they so afraid to shut down useless agencies? They could easily cut 25% of all government workers and make the other 75% work an honest day.

Your comments are simply disingenuous.

Are you a conservative or not?

This IS the time. Now most of them are serious. I support most of what Paul does on the budget, just wish he had more support and the entire thing can be held up for no deficit spending.

I support Rand. We criticized Bush and Obama for spending too much.

Twenty trillion in debt and they can’t even find a way to balance the budget for one solitary year?

Shut it down.

yes, yes. that’s your standard schtick; everyone that disagrees with you is somehow impure or dishonest. that’s an intellectually lazy and morally empty (Not to mention fake) argument.

rand paul is a self obsessed phoney that has fallen in love with the size of his own washington DC radar blip. tbe fact that I find libertarians to be useless, self important blowhards does not jeopardize my conservative bona fides, it reinforces them.

Good for him.
Rub the fact of hemohrage-level overspending in their faces.
Let them buy off someone else to get their free money through.

A compromise bill? Does anybody remember DJT’s campaign promise to cut federal spending “17, 18, maybe 20%.” The only acceptable compromise would be a cut in federal spending by say 8-10%.

Not even Fox has raised this issue. He made this campaign promise. I watched it with my own eyes.

If I were in a position to do so, there is NOTHING I would enjoy more than taking a hacksaw to the federal budget.
