California Move Meant to Challenge Trump’s Offshore Drilling Plan

[Reuters] California will block the transportation through its state of petroleum from new offshore oil rigs, officials told Reuters on Wednesday, a move meant to hobble the Trump administration’s effort to vastly expand drilling in U.S. federal waters.

California’s plan to deny pipeline permits for transporting oil from new leases off the Pacific Coast is the most forceful step yet by coastal states trying to halt the biggest proposed expansion in decades of federal oil and gas leasing.

At what point can a state be deemed to be in rebellion?

I heard a state legislator (can't recall the name or the state) having been quoted as saying that when crafting and debating proposed legislation he and his colleagues give no consideration whatsoever to its possible unconstitutionality. He is quoted as saying that they let the courts worry about constitutionality after enactment.

From the sound of this it seems that that legislator might have been from California.

So a major part of There Will Be Blood was about the main character getting his oil out via pipeline rather than paying for shipment by train.

Trump just needs to go in the opposite direction and offload the oil directly onto oil tankers and float them up the Panama Canal to be refined in Texas.

What if this gambit led to an examination of the legality of the California Coastal Commission?

That would tear the heart and soul (if they had one) out of the greenie liberal left.

.........under Martial Law, and it’s coming to that in parts of California, Trump has the authority to arrest ANY person caught obstructing shipments................

He should make all preparations for Martial Law at appropriate California Ports of entry at the top of his list.

They F’d with Eisenhower and he sent in troops (Arkansas). Governor Wallace found himself facing bayonets. Black LA rioters have found themselves facing Marines. Kent State discovered what military gunfire is all about. I could go on and on.

So, there is precedent and the result is always the same! The Marines and Army troops always Win! These looney liberals are just bluffing anyway.

Well know the presumption is that the denial of permits will not be for a valid reason, but for an arbitrary and capricious one - to ef Trump.

I think it is a violation of the interstate commerce clause. Also, oil is fungible. How do you know what is in the tank came from an old or new well?

California imports Xavier Becerra’s entire staff from DC and implants them in Sacramento. Then, just to make sure the Golden State is on firm ground, Eric (the-red) Holder is retained to muck with Federal regulations that might impact the CalExit Rebellion.

Something stinks here.

The federal government should just shut off oil going to California.

Sorry. No I didn't miss your sarcasm. I was just making a comment, not responding to you at all.

What I was merely pointing out, in addition to your points, is that one of the tests of the validity of a regulatory action is whether it is for a stated valid reason and not for an improper purpose. While regulatory agencies are afforded a presumption of good faith in pursuing the public good, political posturing against Trump undermines the presumption of good faith.

So in short, in declaring their intent to undermine Trump’s policies they have made their own job much harder.

70% of their constituents don’t know what they do, nor care what the heck they do; just keep giving them EBT cards and giving them drivers licenses and keep ICE away... everything’s free in America...

I'm a simple man.

This reads like as if my sorry state has declared war on the rest of the United States.

As simple as that.

I think we real Americans caught behind enemy lines should put something on our doors to let the rest of you know to pass us by when real America comes for us. Sorta like in the Ten Commandments and stuff.

California is in rebellion to the Federal government. Time to roll tanks into Sacramento, arrest the leaders of this treasonous gang, dismiss the Legislature, and install a Federally-appointed governor.

Yes, I'm serious.
