In 2013, Rosatom, backed by the Russian state, acquired a Canadian uranium mining company, now called Uranium One, which has assets in the U.S. Uranium is a key material for making nuclear weapons.
Through the deal, Russia is able to own about 20 percent of U.S. uranium production capacity. However, Colin Chilcoat, an energy affairs specialist who has written extensively about Russia's energy deals, said that the company only extracts about 11 percent of uranium in the U.S.
The deal also “doesn’t allow for that uranium to be exported at all,” Chilcoat told Fox News. “It’s not like it’s leaving the U.S. or somehow finding its way to more insidious players.”
The agreement was approved by nine government agencies with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), an inter-agency group that reviews how certain foreign investments can impact national security. The State Department under Clinton was one of those agencies, though Clinton told WMUR-TV in 2015 that she was not “personally involved” in the agreement.
Some investors reportedly donated millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation. Former President Bill Clinton also received a $500,000 speaking fee in Russia and reportedly met with Vladimir Putin around the time of the deal, Republicans, who are largely critical of the deal, have said.
The FBI had looked into the agreement and uncovered that some Russian nuclear industry officials were engaged in nefarious dealings, which included extortion, bribery and kickbacks, The Hill reported. Evidence of wrongdoing by Vadim Mikerin, the Russian official overseeing Putin’s nuclear expansion in the U.S. who was eventually sentenced to prison, was discovered by the FBI before the deal was approved, according to The Hill.

Yes, I was just going to say, fake news on that claim that the uranium didn’t leave the country. It wasn’t supposed to but it did. And if I recall correctly, they’re not even sure where it ended up either. If that’s the case, how’s that for national security?
I thought there was a trucking company that moved the goods to Canada (?) then overseas.

I went back to the New York Times article about it. I don’t see any hard evidence of where the uranium went, except that Uranium One says some of it went to Western Europe and Japan.
“Asked about that, the commission confirmed that Uranium One has, in fact, shipped yellowcake to Canada even though it does not have an export license. Instead, the transport company doing the shipping, RSB Logistic Services, has the license. A commission spokesman said that “to the best of our knowledge” most of the uranium sent to Canada for processing was returned for use in the United States. A Uranium One spokeswoman, Donna Wichers, said 25 percent had gone to Western Europe and Japan. At the moment, with the uranium market in a downturn, nothing is being shipped from the Wyoming mines.
“The “no export” assurance given at the time of the Rosatom deal is not the only one that turned out to be less than it seemed. Despite pledges to the contrary, Uranium One was delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange and taken private. As of 2013, Rosatom’s subsidiary, ARMZ, owned 100 percent of it.”
And here was something else on Bill Clinton and honest elections from the article. It has to do with the Kazakh mine angle to the Uranium One deal (supposedly the mines that Russia really wanted, as opposed to the US mines that just seemed to come along with the deal).

Mr. Clinton handed the Kazakh president a propaganda coup when he expressed support for Mr. Nazarbayev’s bid to head an international elections monitoring group, undercutting American foreign policy and criticism of Kazakhstan’s poor human rights record by, among others, his wife, then a senator.”
The Dems also gave the North Koreans the money for their nuke program.

It's also good to know that Russia was providing nuclear assistance to Iran, while denying it, and the FBI knew it.

TVEL is a Russian nuclear fuel cycle company headquartered in Moscow. “They (TVEL) continue to assist with construction consult and fabricated assemblies to supply the reactor. Fabricated assemblies require sophisticated engineering and are arranged inside the reactor with the help and consult of TVEL.”
Campbell informed the FBI of the close relationship between TVEL and TENEX, both a part of the Rosatom group. He stated in his brief that while spending time with the Russian executives from both Rosatom and Tenex, that any mention of “TVEL is a subject that is serious to all when mentioned. I do not even raise the subject of TVEL to our friends, but occasionally they speak of it and always in a guarded manner.”
And Bill Clinton gave our missile technology to the Chinese under the guise of “satellite”.
Yep - no reason to own/mine the uranium if one can’t sell/export it...
The indictment reveals that Lambert and many others from Transport Logistics International (TLI) were part of several counts of bribery, money laundering, not to mention kickbacks, with Russian nuclear official Vadim Mikerin. This was as all orchestrated to gain business advantages with TENEX, a Russian owned energy company which owns Uranium One. TLI would have been the company that ostensibly moved all of the uranium from the U1 deal, but an undercover FBI mole within the Russian nuclear industry derived extensive evidence of corruption that blew everything into the open.
