Why FISA-gate Is Scarier Than Watergate
Townhall.com ^ | February 8, 2018 | Victor Davis Hanson

The Watergate scandal of 1972-74 was uncovered largely because of outraged Democratic politicians and a bulldog media. They both claimed that they had saved American democracy from the Nixon administration's attempt to warp the CIA and FBI to cover up an otherwise minor, though illegal, political break-in.

In the Iran-Contra affair of 1985-87, the media and liberal activists uncovered wrongdoing by some rogue members of the Reagan government. They warned of government overreach and of using the "Deep State" to subvert the law for political purposes.

We are now in the midst of a third great modern scandal. Members of the Obama administration's Department of Justice sought court approval for the surveillance of Carter Page, allegedly for colluding with Russian interests, and extended the surveillance three times.

But none of these government officials told the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that the warrant requests were based on an unverified dossier that had originated as a hit piece funded in part by the Hillary Clinton campaign to smear Donald Trump during the current 2016 campaign.

Nor did these officials reveal that the author of the dossier, Christopher Steele, had already been dropped as a reliable source by the FBI for leaking to the press.

Nor did officials add that a Department of Justice official, Bruce Ohr, had met privately with Steele -- or that Ohr's wife, Nellie, had been hired to work on the dossier.

Unfortunately, such disclosures may be only the beginning of the FISA-gate scandal.

Completely irrelevant. If the mainstream Deep State media says it's a scandal, then most of the country sees it as a scandal. If they hide it like they will ObamaGate, then it is NOT a scandal, it's a Republican conspiracy.

We need to face it, and realize the media controls discourse in this country. We need another way to push our narrative. Trump's tweets are working to some degree, but we need more. I think we need ways to take out the legacy media, through financial attacks, or attacks on their personal morality. Flood the tabloids with sexual harassment charges against media figures far and wide. Same for Demonrat politicians. It's time to put down the wine, cheese, and bowties. It's time to punch back twice as hard, as one of the chief Demonrats said.

Nixon’s biggest problem was Nixon.

FISA-gate’s biggest problem is a cabal.

FISAgate is magnitudes greater than Watergate. No comparison.

Can’t avoid wondering about the attempt by Hillary, who was unanimously expected to win the election, to get Trump’s commitment to not contest the election when he lost, and the conniption fit by her and the press when he wouldn’t. With all these revelations coming out, it seems she had a lot to hide even if she won.

Stop calling an implausible and transparent fabrication an "unverified dossier."

It isn't "unverified"[e.g. lacking substantiation]. It is a pack of lies.

I had a request by Freeper Bitt via Freepmail to add him to my Victor Davis Hanson ping list. Unfortunately I lost my list of freepers except for the first eight. Is there a way you can look the names up in the ping that I posted this morning after I posted the Victor Davis Hanson article from Townhall.com and freepmail it to me?

I sure would appreciate your reply

I am still wondering how and where the “hit” and murder of Seth Rich fits into the whole treasonous, seditious operation of the Deep State, the DNC with Hilliary at the helm, and the Clinton Foundation.

I am quiet sure that “following the money” would pay dividends with interest as it applies to every aspect of corruption, from the ex_resident on down. The questions are, where does one start and who is/has been tracking that line of thought?

Exactly. Watergate was nothing compared with FISA scandal.

The FISA law requires that everything presented as substantiation for a warrant request be “verified”.

Using that term is the best way to keep communicating the fact that these were illegal requests, and that the people who presented the requests need to be charged with felonies.

The Democrat media had everything handed to them by the FBI. It was a deep state political assassination of a Republican US President.

Lincoln interpreted the constitution in novel & controversial ways necessary to support the Union war effort. Likewise, Trump, responding to the clear and present danger posed by the existential threat of treasonous conspiracy, is probably utilizing extra-constitutional procedures.

President Trump is "probably utilizing extra-constitutional procedures"? He had better not be, because that's just the sort of thing that could get him into unnecessary trouble. That's probably the kind of thing the Democrats and Deep State are trying to goad him into...

>> I would assume a team has already secured both Hussein’s and Cankles respective servers.

What odds would you give that a team has secured Hussein and Cankles themselves?

There are a lot of people conspicuously absent from the news: Hussein, Cankles, both Podestas, McCain, and many more. When we do hear from “McCain” it’s a released statement, so not verifiable that it’s him. I find it odd that a man who never missed an opportunity to get in front of a camera has been invisible for so long. Yes, I know he’s sick. That’s not a full explanation. Also, I haven’t seen much of Cankles and speaking of her cankles, she’s had that ortho boot on for her supposed broken toe for months now. Speculation is that it’s hiding a cankle monitor. I’m inclined to believe that since my doctor’s Rx for a broken toe was to do nothing.

Moral dilemma: Be honest vs. be loyal. Sometimes it’s a tough call.

Best plan is to have moral friends so there is no need to cover for them.
