Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley says a recent memo written by the attorney general to Justice Department heads that instructs them not to communicate with Congress without pre-approval from the Justice Department Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) is almost certainly illegal.
The Iowa Republican told Jeff Sessions in a letter Tuesday that his recent memo "does not appear to comply with existing law," and he asked Sessions to revise the memo accordingly. Sessions, who apparently told the heads of DOJ divisions that they should not communicate with "senators, representatives, congressional committees, or congressional staff without advance coordination and consultation with OLA" has made cracking down on leaks a key part of his tenure at the DOJ. He held an entire press conference on the subject last year, saying, "This culture of leaking must stop."
Grassley, who has prioritized whistleblower protections in his time in the Senate, said that while he appreciated DOJ's efforts to speak from a coordinated front, he fears Sessions' letter may violate the law and prevent critical information from reaching Congress. Grassley pointed out that Sessions' memo doesn't address the rights of DOJ employees "to make protected disclosures directly to Congress."

I thought Sessions recused himself on the “Russia” investigation. Now he steps in to obstruct oversight by Congress?
Sessions is dirty and compromised.
“REMOVE THAT IDIOT SESSIONS!!!”
I wonder if Sessions is intentionally waiting quietly while others identify the bad guys to the point where even the never-trumpers see that they’re indeed bad guys. Then the Justice department, whether it be led by Sessions or someone else, can come down hard on them.
I love our President but Sessions reflects very badly upon him and I give Swamp Drain an F.
I am so shocked. I always thought that the AG should be a “street fighter” and someone who wouldn’t take gunk from anyone and then Trump chose Sessions and I thought not the street fighter I was looking for but at least Sessions could be trusted.
What a major disappointment he is.
I love our President too, but the biggest mistake he is making is not purging the Obama/Clinton/Bush holdovers. These are not his friends, nor are they on his team!
Wellllll.....
It is more important to protect Obama and Hillary than enforce the law.
How many “friends” could these two have? They are possibly two of the most reprehensible creatures to ever take the public stage. Who would risk their country for these two?
Yeah, quite an accomplishment to be “IN BEFORE THE ...” anything.
@bkopto _started_ the thread.
It is the liberal mindset. The people protecting Obama and Clinton refuse to accept Conservative Policies. The media needs to sell commercials to those of the liberal mindset.
The Democrat Party is dependent upon donations from liberals.
Backstabbing contemptible POS. Doing Hillarys dirty work just as complicitly as Sid Vicious. As bad as any Rat operative in this sordid business.
I agree with you. Funny though, that they think we should just accept their policies without comment or pushback.
We voted for Trump to clean out the corruption of the government. So far, in that particular task, the President has been derelict. I know, I know, 4D chess, and all that bullcrap. There is absolutely no reason for Session not to be run out of D.C. Also those two love bird FBI agents with the incriminating emails should not be getting a paycheck. I know that in my working days I would be gone at the first hint of such conduct.
Trump is doing a great job for the economy which is very important but I fear a corrupt government more and Trump seems to be OK with a police state and that bothers me greatly.
Way to completely miss my point! lol
My posting my perquisite! You could do the same!
A liberal mindset is hard to change, even if it makes sense.
The media likes to keep liberalism alive and well. In this way, the liberal agenda becomes accepted by those who
think it is right. Families become liberal units who will fight for their liberal ideas.
Yes, if I wanted to look dumb I’d post a thread and then post “IN BEFORE (whatever)” in the 2nd post.
Sessions is in over his head. He’s not a leader, nor a street fighter. And he’s easily played. His recusal was a dem setup and it’s crippled swift justice in the Trump administration.
In short, Sessions is awful. He’s got to go. It’s getting stupid.
