Just one question. Declaring that DREAMers arent a priority for deportation feels a little bit like executive amnesty, doesnt it?
Now, if the White House chief of staff is publicly nudging DHS not to remove young illegals whose eligibility has lapsed, hes more or less greenlighting the idea of letting them stay put inside the U.S. as official policy. Theyll be back in the, ahem, shadows, with their right to remain under a cloud, but they wont be removed for the time being. Is that meaningfully different from amnesty?
Art of the deal. Read his tweet on this. He is going to stretch to the limits to hold out a reasonable sounding offer that the Democrats are going to reject. Mass hypocrisy being unveiled here.
If ICE agents come across DACA Illegals, they should deport them. Period
They aren’t priorities for deportation because ICE doesn’t just make random deportation sweeps just to pick up stray illegals here and there. Most of these DACA immigrants now have work or student visas, and as these expire the immigrants are going to have a big incentive to go back home.
They should be at the top of the list. It would help the President’s negotiating position too as the whinging escalates when the DACA illegals start being booted out of the country.
Kelly is open borders anesty dirtbag. Always has been.
scofflaws a person who flouts the law, especially by failing to comply with a law that is difficult to enforce effectively.
It doesn't seem like amnesty to me. The priority for actually hunting down illegals is to go after the ones who are wanted for crimes other than being in the country illegally. But if "dreamers" are convicted of crimes, out they go.
Saying they aren’t a priority does not mean they won’t be deported, it just means ICE isn’t going to hunt them down to deport them simply for being here. DACA illegals have been and are being deported now if they commit crimes or do other things to get the attention of ICE. Haven’t you seen the tearjerker stories from the media?
The priority now is illegals that have been ordered to deport by a judge- tons of them have been living here, some for years. Illegals that commit crimes, or otherwise bring attention to themselves are being deported. Illegals with deportation orders can be and are deported within hours of being detained.
Illegals that do not already have deportation orders can ask for a hearing in immigration courts. Activists that support them have been telling them all for years to request the hearing to keep immigration courts backlogged to the point many are given court dates years from now. Meaning it can take some time to deport those illegals. The good news is new detention centers are being built and staffed, more immigration judges are being hired so the backlog will be cleared and all illegals can be efficiently processed for deportation at that point.
So no it is not any form of amnesty, they can and will be deported- just not considered a priority at this time.

WaPo.
Trump and DHS saying they’re not going to “target” DACA ites nothing to worry about. Most aren’t even registered, so how would ICE or anyone else know their status anyway?
Trump said even during the campaign he would FIRST go for the gang members and criminals. And then on down the list.
The idea that TRump or Kelly is “publicly nudging the DHS not to remove young illegals whose eligibility is lapsed” is just not factual.
It's common sense. The deportees should start with people picked up for crimes, then those without any documentation, and lastly the DACA who signed up for temporary work permits. When the latter no longer can get extensions of work permits they will self deport or move to a sanctuary that hires illegals.
Hush now. It is only Amnesty when the Democrats do it. Trump isn't Ike.
Trump always said his priorities were criminals, gangs, dealers/suppliers.
For one thing, the deportation courts are so slow, it makes no sense to clog them with run of the mill illegals when bad guys need to be booted.
No, it simply recognizes that there are millions ahead of the REAMERS who should be considered for deportion. If they are keeping their noses clean why should they be treated as MS13 members or cartel coyotes?
Anyone with a functioning brain knows they are at the bottom of the priority list. It also is the chip which will win the important reforms of the immigration system.
It is also recognition of reality and that they are a separate category of Illegal.
We need to go after the drunks, killers and drug cartels who cause enormous damage. Even that will be a herculean job.
i was going to post basically the same as your entire post. agree and thanks for posting early. this 1 armed tapping is for the birds
Plenty of known hard criminals to take up ICE’s time and efforts for now - making DACA-in-general folks a priority would be bad politics for now - let the Dems hang by their own petards as the lack of protected status sinks in.
