Super Bowl Ratings Slip To 8-Year Low As Eagles Score Historic Win
Dead line Hollywood ^ | Feburary 5,2018 | Dominic Patten

However, Sunday’s Super Bowl LII also saw a decline of 5% in metered market results from the last time NBC had the big game back on February 1, 2015 when the Patriots faced off against then champs the Seattle Seahawks. Overall, last night’s game peaked in the high stakes fourth quarter with 52.2/74.

All in all, Super Bowl LII is currently the lowest rated since Super Bowl XLIV in 2010 when the New Orleans Saints thrashed the Indianapolis Colts on CBS.

Even before those results were in of last night’s game, another voice was added to the chorus of praise to the finally victorious Eagles. While Donald Trump passed on the traditional Presidential sit down with the Super Bowl broadcasting network on Sunday, the Tom Brady pal did take to social media for a few words after all the hoopla had left the field at Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium:

Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles on a great Super Bowl victory! 7:54 PM - 4 Feb 2018

The SewerBowel™ ratings were down, the FR live thread was dead, and the FR thread about alternative SufferBowel™ activities almost surpassed the live thread in replies.

The nfl is the American Idol of sports: big yet collapsing audience with No Future Left.

nflol!

Or Arena Football.

Someone had a great quote, “The Super Bowl was like a Texas Tech game with millionaires.”

I think bowling is becoming less and less popular.

Do advertisers pay for much less care about the golden-streaming audience?

First game i watched all year..was a good game..I had plan to turn it off but it was close all the way..glad Boston lost..but I am not a Eagles fan..really not a fan of anyone anymore..

Move to Florida when the Californians took over Colorado..

No need to be inside in the winter time anymore..

Very nice quotation. I was watching the 538 live analysis, and one of the commentators there stated late in the 3rd quarter that he felt like he was watching Oklahoma vs. Texas Tech.

The Chargers never won a superbowl with Fouts. That was a good thing. Football was better then—the elements of the game were more balanced.

LOL, that NFL means No Future Left.

We’ll see. Will the NFL be as popular 20 years from now as it is now? Will the Super Bowl still be one of the biggest TV shows of the year, with football fans and non-football fans alike? Will they still get these pop stars eager to be the halftime entertainment? Will it still be the cultural spectacle it has evolved into?

The NFL is getting hit from different angles.

You have the kneeling protesting players turning off people.

You have the issues with concussions turning off people, and possibly turning off future potential players from playing football.

You have the interminable games on TV, with commercial breaks/TV timeouts, along with replay reviews making the games tedious to watch, which is turning off some people.

Add it all up, it’s no surprise that ratings are declining.

Do Goddell and his boys know why this is happening? Sometimes it seems as if they are tone deaf to what’s happening in their own industry.

Yep, I like 3 yards and a cloud of dust, and snot-knocking defense, not watching a bunch of pretty boys prancing around.

The social justice warrior converged commercials are what is going to kill off the NFL.

The nfl will reduce itself by 50% to match its future audience size.

Imagine that: go-to-hell goodell approved a bunch of debbie-downer commercials for his StuporBowl, and now with the continuing decline of his marquee broadcast, he has a bad case of SufferBowels™

nflol!

That included a huge boost in Philadelphia, so everywhere else it dropped more.

Wow. Well, if the NFL reduced its size, you could have the unthinkable event happen, of teams folding. Wouldn’t that be a shocking event?

What’s happening in their industry is that the Verizon streaming deal just doubled and the Thursday Night deal just went up almost 50%. They’re still the biggest dog in the market by a lot.
