The much talked-about GOP memo regarding the FBI and their conduct regarding a FISA warrant targeting former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page is finally out, and its a doozy. The memo confirmed rumors that Republicans were complaining about how the FBI omitted information from their warrant application regarding their reliance on the dossier compiled by Christopher Steele for Fusion GPS, paid for by the Democratic National Committee. While most of it wasnt all that consequential, the latter part of the memo contained a bombshell about connections between the Justice Department and Fusion GPS.
The memo claims that the Steele dossier was essential to getting a FISA warrant, and cites FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabes testimony before the House Intelligence Committee, where he allegedly said that no warrant would have been obtained against Page if not for the dossier. Now Democrats (and the FBI) have accused the GOP of taking parts out of context, but if this is true, it is especially troubling given that the source of the dossier was anti-Trump, and the DOJ knew it.
The memo asserts that Steele himself had admitted to then-Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr that he was desperate that Donald Trump not get elected. That bias was not disclosed to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC). While Ive discussed how the mere fact that the DNC paid for Steeles research probably wouldnt affect the validity of the FISA warrant, their knowledge that Steele himself had personal beef with Trump could be different. Especially if you add that on top of the claim that McCabe said no warrant would have been obtained against Page if not for the dossier.
In addition to this supposed bias on Steeles part, the dossier has been widely reported as unverified. The DOJ itself has refused to address whether or not theyve reached a final determination on whether they can confirm the details in the dossier. Therefore, the reliance on the dossier to get a FISA warrant is suspect, to put it mildly.
In United States v. Glover, the Seventh Circuit ruled that a warrant against a gang member was bad and had to be tossed out because the government didnt disclose that their informant was in a rival gang and had lied in the past. While Steele had been a reliable FBI source in the past, if he had admitted bias against Trump, and the fact that his research was funded by Democrats trying to take down a rival campaign, should have been disclosed to the court.
Besides the allegations of bias, the fact that the DOJ wont even say if they confirmed that the dossier was even truthful is much more worrisome. If the dossiers contents indeed have not been verified, but the FBI relied on it anyway, then they themselves would have had to make a misrepresentation to suggest that it supported the necessary probable cause to get the warrant in the first place.
The memo also says that the FBIs reliance on Steeles research was not limited to just the dossier. Ohrs wife was working for Fusion GPS at the time, and have him the companys research, which Ohr then turned over to the FBI, according to the memo.
Basically, the memo paints a picture of a government law enforcement working hand in hand with the DNC in order to take down Donald Trump. No wonder the DOJ, FBI, and Democrats were so vehemently against it.
Now, the preemptive strike against the memo from its opponents is that it picks and chooses classified information to create an allegedly distorted picture of what happened. The FBI said in a statement:
With regard to the House Intelligence Committees memorandum, the FBI was provided a limited opportunity to review this memo the day before the committee voted to release it. As expressed during our initial review, we have grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memos accuracy.
Democrats have their own memo that they would like to release, but the GOP-controlled committee has not allowed it. It remains to be seen what, if any, information gets out to counter this narrative.
How many days before it's "leaked" to CNN along with all the Democrat talking points
for pookie
The Titanic met an Iceberg, the DNC met a Memo...
Explains why Mueller postponed the sentencing of Flynn as it would be tossed on appeals..
How can the Republicans on the committee release a document that they have not been allowed to read?
It seemed to me that the section of the dossier about the prostitutes in Moscow was so outrageous that it was put in the plea as a method of signaling that the whole dossier was total BS.
How a judge would go for that is a real mystery. All three of those judges should be removed from their positions for being incredibly stupid. Taken off the bench, not just removed from FISA.
What dummies.
Comey is a big one. If he signed this FISA warrant, he was playing a dirty double or triple game. Assuming McCabe's testimony about the dossier being necessary for the warrant; the fact that the FBI knew or should have known who paid for it; that it was hand-delivered by McCain, and knowing it was unverified makes Comey's actions very suspicious.
Then Comey briefs his new boss, Trump, on the dossier contents when he comes in; tells him that there is no investigation or suspicion of Trump's dealings with Russia, and at the same time refuses to say that publicly, while knowing all the surveillance that took place on the basis of a suspect FISA warrant. Then, when he is fired, he leaks through a friend (now claiming attorney/client privilege) hoping to get his other friend Mueller, appointed by another long-time associate, Rosenstein, to go after Trump. A treacherous, double dealing bastard. He even tried to play it both ways by pretending to investigate the Hillary emails on Weiner's computer. And he's teaching ethics!
Thanks, GraceG!
At this point we are about as deep into this treachery as in a baseball game when the umpire calls PLAY BALL!
I prefer the name Obamas-Hole.... at last a legacy of that will live.
Ha ! Good Catch !!
Not recently, perhaps.
However, Assange definitely has a history of hacking.
When Assange was in his late teens and early twenties, he hacked into several USA government networks, and also into several USA corporate networks. Then, Assange bragged about it on at least one hacker website.
It's my understanding that is why Assange is still in the Ecuador Embassy in London, long after Sweden (?) dropped the rape charge.
The USA has never publicly filed formal charges against Assange, but it is lawfully possible for the USA to ask the UK to detain and eventually hand over Assange to American authorities.
Well i’ve been shadow banned on twatter.... It was only a matter of time I guess...
I stand corrected. Back in the day, when he was a younger man, he definitely was doing it, 100% correct.
Realize now, that I was typing more about what he’s been up to, in recent years and what has kept him locked up in an embassy in London.
Re: “If Mueller goes to trial, he gets his butt handed to him.”
In Washington D.C.?
96% of the jury pool voted against Trump in the 2016 election!
they, including Obama, never expected Trump to win. He did. Now this information see the light of day.
The Schiffheads are waiting for Michael Wolff to finish writing it for them.
