Florida is the worst state in the nation in every way, new rankings say
Miami Hurled ^ | 1/28/18 | HOWARD COHEN

Florida ranks dead last when it comes to rating the best states in the nation. Michigan ranks No. 1, the very best state in the union.

Let that sink in for awhile. Michigan, the state that gave us the Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent and Kid Rock (the poor man’s Ted Nugent), is 49 states better than Florida.

Thrillist’s Definitive and Final Ranking of All 50 States list ranked the states “based on everything.” Specifically, the states’ contributions to America, like inventions, food and drink, “somewhat productive famous people,” and unique physical beauty, among other things.

Orlando south, isn’t Florida. A stranger in a strange land. The florida of old is gone. Most of the crackers have been bred out and the rest of florida has beeen taken over by outsiders and real estate interest.

We need a like button for this. I agree, Navarre is where my heart lives (unfortunately, my butt is in MS)

Have you ever checked out the artificial reefs in Navarre? I think they have them on both the Gulf and bay sides. I haven't been to them yet, but there's a webcam video I watched that is incredible.

They're added lots of artificial reefs further down the way around Miramar and Grayton Beach. The surf was too strong last summer when we were in that area to check out their artificial reefs, but I can't wait to see them this summer. Tons of fish, turtles, etc. I watched one youtube video of a guy at those reefs who videoed a huge whale that's pretty rare (can't remember what type).

That whole area from Gulf Shores to Seaside is amazing. The wife has really been working on getting me to move to Pensacola.

“It’s nice to visit, but then I remember in a few days why I left.....Floridians.”

LOL! It could be that a lot of those “Floridians” were actually transplants from other states. I’m (to my personal knowledge) the only Florida cracker living on my street. One of the neighbors on my street (a New Yorker) told me I was a FOREIGNER!

The whale was a whale shark, and it wasn't at the artificial reefs, but a mile out from shore.

Whale Sharks in Grayton Beach..

When they were putting in the underwater utilities to Navarre Beach, they ran into a 7,500 year old underwater forest. I went over and got some of the 'orange' Cypress wood they dredged up. There's a standing forest down under the Santa Rosa Sound. Neat stuff.

Excellent! All you Yanqees stay away! Do not come to Disney or Busch Gardens or St. Augustine or Key West... none of the places in Florida. Especially do not come here to work; we have (gasp) NO state income tax - that is why we all have to live in grass huts.

Michigan is #1 because they have wonderful two foot snow falls with below zero freezes - for months out of the year... AND due to high punitive taxation it contains some delightful crumbling cities with high crime rates - all carefully maintained by a one-party Democrat monopoly.

Yeah, everyone... head for Michigan today!

Thlis from 2014:

I have really, really bad news.

Some of you may have seen a story circulated online saying that Publix would be opening standalone sub shops to compete with Subway. Unfortunately, that’s not true — or at least not yet.

The rumor was started Tuesday by Miami-based blog The305.com. Many readers didn’t see the “This is an April Fools’ joke” tag at the bottom of the post and shared it as being real.

One, it was a hoax.
Two, Publix would be using their own stuff. Subway not involved.

So, thanks (not),

Public has the best cheesecake I have found from any grocery store! And so are most of their other desserts. Walmart cheesecake is at the bottom of my list.

Did lot of skiing at indianhead & Whitecaps. It was like heavenly snow conditions compared to short icy hills near Illinois Wisconsin border. Our ski club would bus us from Chicagoland on Fridays after work, the 5-6 hour bus ride was all partying, ski all day Saturday & Sunday and back to Chicago after midnight. It was the best of times in my 30’s & 40’s.

We need more conservative voters in Florida! Taxes are low and there is no snow to contend with. We must keep this state in republican column. I am so impressed with the well maintained smooth highways without potholes here. Even the rest areas are better than anywhere and I should know having driven twice from Florida to Seattle to Phoenix and back to Florida, with 3rd trip coming up.

I meant it jovially. We don’t have any good subs here like that (that I know of).

I figured April 1 would be enough to say it was an April Fools joke (by Publix, actually).

Publix sub’s excellence begins with the rolls. Their baked good are as good as any NY/NJ bakery,

You must have been tired on Monday mornings. :-)

The first time I went through the UP was in winter. Snow all over the place but the storm was worse along the Michigan/Indiana border and Chicago.
The UP was like a winter wonderland out of a calendar. Absolutely beautiful and peaceful.

I plan on hitting the road in a year or two and actually spend some time in all the beautiful places I drove my truck through.
I really want to spend some time in N Michigan in summer. Mosquitoes and all.
The winters are just too cold for this Virginia boy.
