Treasury check scam happening now?
Mailed Treasury Check ^ | 24 January 2018 | Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin

Received a fake Treasury check in the mail today with no letter or anything to indicate as to why it was sent. Didn't put my name correctly per the government records (missed a little tidbit I won't mention here). When people cash these checks, the check is returned to whoever sent it per the routing info with your endorsement signature and your account number. Don't fall for it.

Micro printing on the endorsement line, but not on the edge of Liberty's garment. Biggest warning sign of all is that I haven't filed my taxes yet and have no reason to be getting a Treasury check. The Treasury verification web site is not working which is very strange. Watch out folks.

If you deposit a bad check, the bank holds you responsible for the money. Banks don’t check the writer’s bank account for sufficient funds. Only after it is rejected by the writer’s bank does your bank know.

Have the bank check the routing number, and if it is the Treasury, then you need to call the IRS, or Social Security, or whomever, and check for ID theft.

I wrote out a check to a guy I hired to build a deck on my house. He did a good job for a fair price. I got the check back with a fingerprint on it. It made me ashamed that the bank would do that to him (because he was black?).

I should add that the check wasn’t returned NSF, it was just cashed and came back to be, back when banks used to return your paper checks.

“So...................how is it that the escort service has your number?”

You didn’t use me as a character reference, did you?

I received several of these about 4-5 years ago. Always a broken accent. I filed a complaint on each one - of course, never heard anything about the complaint - other than “thank you for......”.

I never could figure out what the scam was as it was just threats if you didn’t call them and police would be at your door but where was the scam? Maybe their training hadn’t taken them that far..

There would have to be an authentic routing number to even get routed to the right clearing house.

No, it was because he was not a customer of that bank.

My husband sold some coins and, since we needed the money right away rather then in a week, took it to the issuing bank to cash.

They gave him a major run around and finally cashed it but it took his finger print on the check, two forms of id and a call to the issuer.

And it was not that big a check, a couple of thousand dollars.

They would try to get you to pay by offering to settle for a small amount if you did an electronic bank draft. They would then drain your bank account.

My bank does that to anyone who wants to cash a check there if they don't have an account with the bank. It has NOTHING to do with the color of one's skin.

Just to clarify.

So, it is not a Treasury Check.

But is it a real check, in the sense of your original post, that would be routed back to the sender with your account number?

“”They would try to get you to pay by offering to settle for a small amount if you did an electronic bank draft. Thy would then drain your bank account.””

That’s what never made any sense...Nothing was ever said about anything other than - “”better call us or you’ll have a policeman knocking at your door.”” I think they wanted to make sure you were looking out your window waiting for them to drive up - HA!

Those nuisance calls have for the most part ended. I block nuisance numbers now but haven’t had any of those types in several years.

The biggest fraud was billions of refundable credits going to illegal aliens.
