I wrote out a check to a guy I hired to build a deck on my house. He did a good job for a fair price. I got the check back with a fingerprint on it. It made me ashamed that the bank would do that to him (because he was black?).
I should add that the check wasn’t returned NSF, it was just cashed and came back to be, back when banks used to return your paper checks.
My husband sold some coins and, since we needed the money right away rather then in a week, took it to the issuing bank to cash.
They gave him a major run around and finally cashed it but it took his finger print on the check, two forms of id and a call to the issuer.
And it was not that big a check, a couple of thousand dollars.
My bank does that to anyone who wants to cash a check there if they don't have an account with the bank. It has NOTHING to do with the color of one's skin.
