Qx has friends who live there—except during the coldest months—when they are in Quartzite AZ LOL. He works on the Pipeline.

IIRC, there’s moderate risk depending on several factors at that depth. a 1-2 mile depth is more hazardous. A 10-30 mile depth not so hazardous—depending.

i found an article that says the shallower the “focal depth” for an earthquake the more likely it is to make nasty tsunamis. I don’t know if focal depth corresponds to the figure you gave or not

I was just reading again yesterday about the 9.2 in the Indian Ocean that produced a tsunami that killed more than a quarter million people. They sure aren’t something to play around with.
At that time they had no instruments in the Indian Ocean that allowed them to warn anybody.

i wonder if people will believe the cell phone alerts this time after the recent wolf cry. Guess the persistent sirens will be convincing

That also involved an undersea cliff of several hundred feet suddenly appear. THAT displaced a LOT of water yielding the huge tsunami.

If there was/is tsunami from this thing, it would have hit the town of Kodiak seven minutes ago. Kodiak should have reported something by now.
It’ll hit here in about 20 minutes.

At that time of the morning everyone will be asleep, impact though would be the north and north west part of the island.
They are having brutal high surf right now so it might not even be noticed.
There will be more, my guess off the top of my head is the Pacific Northwest is next.
