IIRC, there’s moderate risk depending on several factors at that depth. a 1-2 mile depth is more hazardous. A 10-30 mile depth not so hazardous—depending.

I was just reading again yesterday about the 9.2 in the Indian Ocean that produced a tsunami that killed more than a quarter million people. They sure aren’t something to play around with.
At that time they had no instruments in the Indian Ocean that allowed them to warn anybody.
