Senate Dems relent, vote to end shutdown; House to follow
The Seattle Times ^ | January 22, 2018 | by Zeke Miller

Congress sped toward reopening the government Monday as Democrats reluctantly voted to temporarily pay for resumed operations.

But by relenting, the Democrats prompted a backlash from immigration activists and liberal base supporters who wanted them to fight longer and harder for legislation to protect from deportation the 700,0090 or so younger immigrants who were brought to the country as children and now are here illegally.

Immigration activists and other groups harshly criticized the deal reached by the Democratic leadership.

Cristina Jimenez, executive director of United We Dream, said the members of the group are “outraged.” She added that senators who voted Monday in favor of the deal “are not resisting Trump, they are enablers.”

Other groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union expressed disappointment and shared similar criticism.

Although the Democrats initially dug in on a demand for an immigration deal, they had shifted to blaming the shutdown on the incompetence of Republicans and Trump. The Democrats seemed sensitive to being seen by voters as willing to tie up government operations to protect immigrants in the U.S. illegally.

They are outraged? Does anybody care? I don’t. I’m outraged that they think they have citizen’s rights.

This is from another forum and I am paraphrasing.

Shouldn't we have pity on the poor children who were brought here by their parents since the children had no say so in the matter.

The answer to that was WHAT ABOUT THE MILLIONS OF ABORTIONS WHERE THE CHILDREN HAVE NO SAY SO IN THE MATTER?

I love the answer. MAGA!!!

Thanks. I see the difference. This is not the House bill. This is the Senate bill for a short term extension to Feb 8th, hence the need for the House to re-vote.

Anyone know when the house is voting? House already passed a 4 week CR (I thought). They should rub the senate Dems nose in it and force them to agree to the house 4 week CR.

Hey christina, honey.....you git your carcass over to your side of the fence and be outraged all you want.

They claimed this was about DACA. DACA is a specific program with specific calendar dates, ages, and requirements. DACA recipients have to apply, reapply and can be tracked. There were 800K DACA recipients. Now there's 680K. Some committed crimes, dropped out or aged out.

Over the last few days, they've changed the Noun. DACA is gone and has been replaced by "Dreamers". That's intentional. There are millions of people who would qualify as "Dreamers". The definition is way too broad and too easy to falsify.

This was never about 800K DACA kids. This is about legalizing millions and millions of illegals. DACA was the foot in the door. The ultimate goal was "Dreamers".

I can understand that they were brought here and had no say in the matter. That doesn’t mean they should have stayed. They should not have been allowed to enroll in school here. The kids and parents should have been immediately deported. I’m sure there are cases where the parents came on a work visa and the kids went to school while here and then the parents over-stayed the visa. Still, when the work visa ran out the whole kit and caboodle should have been sent home.

Why can’t people see what hypocrites the Dems are that they would promote the killing of American children but protect illegals?

"This is about legalizing millions and millions of illegals."

And their vote.

I loved this!!!! For decades the Rats could depend on journalist to blame the Repubs for a shut down. And the public to follow.

This time Trump and a few Repubs got on social media and got out the "Schumer Shutdown" out way early. Public followed.

They had no choice to fold. They lost.

MAGA!

protect from deportation the 700,000 or so younger immigrants who were brought to the country as children and now are here illegally.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No elected official should be protecting illegal aliens from our laws.
Every bill introduced greatly expands the eligibility far beyond the 700,000 signed up for the illegal DACA.
3-4 million is closer to the truth.
100% agree. Trump has also set the rules for any debate on immigration “reform” - end chain migration, end diversity VISA lottery, and build the wall. I only wish he would ADD ending anchor baby or “birth-right citizenship”. It’s insane.
