Democrats caved on the shutdown, and they’re admitting it

You don't need me to tell you that Democrats just caved when it comes to ending the government shutdown; even some of their leading senators are admitting it. Here's Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.), a potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate:

“I don’t believe he made any commitment whatsoever and I think it would be foolhardy to believe he made a commitment.” Cc: Democratic leadership.

Here's another critic, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.):

Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) says she’s “very disappointed” in deal because there’s no guarantee House will pass fix to help Dreamers.

“I don’t get this—it sounds like a total cave on the part of the GOP!”

No different from the Republican position when the shutdown started - hard to see how they ‘caved’.

As it is, good luck Dems on getting Trump to support a clean DACA bill...especially after the Dems actually did offer him a few things if he would sign a DACA bill, and we wound up with his s-hole comment as the result of that.

It takes 67 Senators and 290 House members (meaning something like 90 Republicans) to override a Trump veto. While I’m also not so hot on Republicans, I fail to see which 90 Republicans are willing to lose their seats for these DACA types.

“Looks like DACA will be law in a month or two.”

Sure, if the Dems meet Trump’s terms...

“I heard the senate caved on Daca !!!!”

What do the Dems have to show for the shutdown? Everything they have now was promised BEFORE the shutdown.

Exactly. No way any clean DACA bill gets passed. Trump just kicked their arses. If they wanna pull this again in about 3 weeks, then they can go ahead.

“If we give in on that and allow specifically 800,000 dreamers only to stay here but end chain and lottery, and a wall, I think that is a great deal for everyone...a deal where everyone wins and we can get the f on with MAGA.”

I agree with you, but you’ll get pushback here. The key thing is chain migration - it is the cornerstone of the Democrats staying on as a national party, they are simply WAY TOO LEFT WING to get anything more than 40% (if that) of American votes. The FDR/JFK generation is dying out and their American-born replacements were flushed down the drain...so they have to put EVERYTHING on repopulation - this is make or break, and Trump seems to get it, so far.

Ziggy’s Solution ...

For every daca person who stays, 2 of their illegal relatives, friends or whomever has to leave, recorded and codified, with max penalty if they are caught here again,

A true Win-win

MAGA baby! Can you imagine any other republican that ran in 2016 handling this better?

Not to mention the last two Republican Presidents.

Trump fights for what’s right, plain and simple. The Dems just learned that this is a new animal - the fighting Republican.

I'm under the impression that President Trump's leadership is winning over the Republicans in Congress too. Notice that even Mitch McConnell stood his ground. That's the difference between a President who stands up to the Dems, and ones who allow the Dems to kick them around like dead dogs.

Winning!

I’m not so sure.

Before the Schumer Shutdown, many Americans were sympathetic to Dreamers.

I would think many Americans are now having second thoughts, after seeing the absolute selfishness that the Dreamers and Democrat party showed in this “fight”.

It may be much more difficult to get DACA through Congress after this Democrat fiasco.

A guy can hope, anyway!

You’re wrong—the position before the shutdown was funding for the wall, an end to chain migration, etc. The Dems were asking for a clean DACA bill and the GOP refused them.

Trump is unlikely to veto a bill he has said repeatedly he backs.

“Trump is unlikely to veto a bill he has said repeatedly he backs.”

If that were the case, he would have backed the bill a few weeks ago that the Gang of Six came up with. Clean DACA, plus a few crumbs for the wall, plus a slight easing of the Visa Lottery. Instead Trump used the term s-hole.

Hard to see why he’d now settle for something even worse (just a clean DACA).
