OKLAHOMA CITY Drivers across Oklahoma can expect to pay more on some turnpikes next year.
On Tuesday, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority voted to increase the tolls of some routes by 2.5 percent in January.
Experts predict that the increase will cost drivers between 5 cents and 10 cents more on their trip.
As you may remember, tolls were increased on the states turnpikes in March by about 12 percent. At that time, turnpike officials warned that rates would increase again in 2018 and in 2019.
Officials say another 2.5 percent increase is expected in 2019.
should be privatized
I paid a buck thirty five for a ONE mile trip down the kilpatrick in edmond last week.
How does that stack up nationally??
I may be driving that stretch between OC and Tulsa. Can you still pay cash?
How does that stack up nationally??
High even by Pennsyltucky standards.
PA Turnpike is about $0.25/mile with electronic transponder (EZ Pass) tag.
Here in PA the turnpike prices are 300 percent more than the OK turnpikes roughly speaking. PA just imposed a six percent hike.
Cash is accepted at the mid-point near Stroud.
I believe you can at some tollbooths.
I thought it was around 10 cents/mile with E-Z Pass. Of course, if you’re driving a truck, that’s different.
You the drivers be greeted by even more potholes as well?
I need to go the entire distance.
Turnpikes are cash cows. They are NEVER declared free roads. Turner Turnpike was supposed to be a free road when the bonds were paid off around 1966.
On the other hand, a turnpike can be built and finished in five years while a “free” interstate is still being built for twenty years.
can they go hella faster on the turnpikes once they pay the tolls?? :)
I was just there 2 weeks ago, I think it’s about $4.50 cash.
It’s a pain; I don’t go often enough to justify EZ Pass.
And I take the Creek Turnpike around Tulsa too, where you stop about 3 times to pay 90 cents or so at each stop. Sheesh.
Get a pikepass. It gives you a discount and works in the Dfw area and on Kansas turnpike roads. Its a third less in some areas. Especially cheaper on the north Texas toll roads
I live near Tulsa and just recently traveled from there through OK city just a few weeks ago. You can pay cash the entire way. Just a note, some of the automated “throw your change in a basket” toll stops sometimes do not register all of the coins you drop in.
Are Oklahoman’s OK with this tax increase?
No raises in years for state workers or teachers but raise fees for toll ways. Enslave the citizens through regulations and fees.
I've noticed that myself. I've tried just waiting there another 15 seconds and it sometimes green lights me. This is something that can easily be programmed to squeeze a little more.
