Canadian weather has declared war against one of our ships completely immobilizing it for the next couple of months.

The most advanced military in the world can still be bested by nature. I wonder what all those sand storms in Iraq do to our tanks and other equipment.

Perhaps the littoral combat ship should only stay in deep waters where ice is less of a problem?

This happened to a Canada Steamship Line ore carrier in Thunder Bay many years ago. Cold weather hadn’t arrived but the chief engineer had misread his bunker measurement.
I sent eight truckloads of hot Number 6 oil from Superior, WI to the boat and she exited before the freeze-in.

The Artic blast was scheduled a week in advance.
It was forecasted as extreme cold blowing down.

Wow. Frozen in. Who could've imagined that in the middle of January in Quebec?
The Captain of that ship must be an equal opportunity promotion.

Should have docked the ship up in the Arctic.
From what I hear, global warming has melted all the ice up there.

Our navy has gone to hell,. Who could be so stupid with our ship? Check out the weather channel!! We have two captains now charged with negligent homicide in the pacific. We have 20 dead sailors and $100 million in damages to OUR ships from grossly incompetent navy officers and now this humiliation. My GOD!!

Are we fighting a river war with Canada?? Why in hell is a littoral combat ship in Montreal in the first place? Littoral combat ships are intended for operations close to the coastline — Montreal is pretty far inland.

USS Little Rock was commissioned on Dec. 16 in Buffalo, next to the decommissioned USS Little Rock (CG-4), the World War II-era Cleveland-class light cruiser that was converted to a guided-missile platform. The region received significant snow accumulation during the week leading up the ceremony, and crew members had to clear several inches of snow off the ship before the ceremony. After the ceremony, Little Rock was to depart Buffalo, transit the Seaway to reach the Atlantic Ocean, and continue to Mayport, Fla. Now Little Rock will remain in Montreal until the ice clears, likely in March.
Makes sense that this was commissioned in Buffalo in the winter. Some years it is no problem but some years ...
While in port, the crew of Little Rock will continue to focus on training, readiness and certifications, a Navy spokesperson told USNI News.
Based on recent navy trends the only certifications earned will be in alcohol consumption and in skirt chasing.
Wait, that was my Dad's Army. No telling what certs and medicines the boys will leave Montreal with in this day and age.

Oh my goodness. Those poor sailors having to starve on fine dining and lots and lots of beer. :P
Personally, I wonder how many will be too fat for their berthing by the time the ship gets free. Poutine, beer and Montreal smoked meat...
