Another day has passed and were getting closer to a government shutdown. The money runs out midnight on Friday unless a deal is struck on immigration. Lets not forget that Senate Democrats once thought tying immigration reform to matters of the budgets was insane. Sen. Chuck Schumer, now Senate Minority Leader, said it would breed governmental chaos five years ago.
The negotiations have hit a snag after it was leaked that President Trump asked why are we letting in people from s**thole countries. The liberal media blew a gasket. While Sen. Dick Durbin has confirmed the president said this DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), and Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) couldnt recall. Trump made these remarks while speaking with Senate Democrats and Republicans.
Durbin stopped by The View to discuss the immigration deal and the presidents remarks. There was a lot of background noise due to a demonstration held by rabbis and other Jewish leaders in the rotunda calling for DREAMER protections and a clean DACA bill.
Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, and company all lobbed questions critical of Republicans. Of course, she served up a question that allowed Durbin to call Cotton and Perdue liars. Alicia Menendez, daughter of Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) who recently skirted federal corruption charges, asked for a response to Cottons charge about Durbin waiting so long to comment on this remark. Durbin gave Republican Lindsey Graham (R-SC) credit for pushing back on the presidents comments, though Joy Behar said Graham is not credible since he walks a waffled line with the Trump White House.
Its funny we talk about this because Dick Durbin made up a story about a private White House meeting in 2013. It was during the negotiations over the debt ceiling, where Durbin said that one GOP House leader told then-President Obama, I cannot even stand to look at you. There was only one problem: it never happened. The Obama White House even denied such an exchange never took place.
Co-host Meghan McCain brought this up when she questioned the senator.
Meghan McCain: You have a history of misrepresenting statements from private White House meetings, and some say that youve actually done more harm than good to the DACA deal by revealing what Trump said in his private meeting. Do you think thats true?Sen. Dick Durbin, Illinois: Well, I can tell you what you hear behind me are the voices of democracy; demonstrators who are on Capitol Hill willing to be arrested in a non-violent way for the Dream Act. I believe the strength behind this, the energy behind this movement to help these DREAMERS, DACA protected, is stronger than ever.
McCain added that energy and consensus is all on the Democratic side, which does nothing to win over Republican votes. Hence, the reason why Democrats wanted to speak with Trump, who is more open to DACA protections than most on the Hilland why Durbins actions over this kerfuffle over some vulgar remarks could derail negotiations. Durbin seemed hopeful that more GOP votes would come forward. Then, came the question about the looming shutdown
Meghan McCain: Senator, are Democrats willing to shut down the government on Friday over this DACA deal?Durbin: I didnt run for the Senate to shut down the government.
The Illinois Democrat added that the DACA/DREAMER bill has to be done this week, and that he was off to another bipartisan meeting to try and hash out an agreement.
Yeah, thats all good and all, but let the record show once again that Durbin has done exactly what he accused his Republican colleagues of doing regarding WH meetings: lie about them. And a Democrat, the leader of his own party at the time, called him out. As much as I would like to keep hammering Durbin on the fact that he did straight up lie about a WH meeting to make Republicans look bad, we need to move on and look to what this bill is going to look like. Frankly, its seems pretty likely that shutdown theater is coming soon.
Lol!
Reid said he doubted that romney paid income taxes while speaking to an empty chamber late night on the senate floor. Then during the campaign reid said:"Word is out that romney didn't pay income taxes".
Of course, reid is the only one who "put the word out".
He is in gitmo
My uncle died last May of same disease. I didn’t think he’d make it to new year. His days are numbered.
Thanks for the comments. You could be right.
It sure sounds like him.
Has she been fired yet?
DACA DICKEY
No and nothing about him on local news here in Phoenix other than a headline that indicated he still has not returned to Washington.
I am curious about his condition. Even if he didn’t want to appear in public, he could get huge publicity by calling reporters or radio shows. The fact that he has not done so is telling. His daughter said two weeks ago that he was doing physical therapy at his desert home in Sedona. No mention of his physical/mental state. As he misses more and more Senate votes, surely more people are going to be asking questions.
To paraphrase Johnny Paycheck... Take this DACA and shove it!
I’ve tried not to think much about him. I don’t really want to think about him dying, because I’d rather ignore my true instincts about him.
Not sure what the physical therapy would entail.
I don’t know if this therapy impacts his speech or motor skills.
Dick needs to, “work out” with Harry Reid’s exercise equipment.
He would be on camera if he could be.
Someone, anyone, should ask Turban Durbin to take an independent lie detector test.
+1. Sadly he believes this stuff is real so he might pass. The insane are pretty good a beating the machine.
Fake News. Cotton and Purdue, IIRC, said that the specific term was NOT used.
No, people in IL will never figure out that Durbin is a “nutcase.”
That’s a bit over the top. Any shutdown does NOT shut down the military or federal policing forces. Essential employees of the government continue to work. Furthermore, any federal employees who do not receive pay owed during a shutdown will receive that pay after the shutdown is resolved. It is delay of pay, at worst.
Trump is proving daily that the government is bloated with non-essential bureaucrats, 90% of whom supported Clinton last election. Not paying them for a few weeks would be a good thing, in my mind. Not paying them ever again would be better.
Let the Rats shut it down over the “rights” of illegal aliens. That’ll be another anti-American stain on them. Other than the temporary financial strain put on our brave military people, I could care less.
Trump, I believe, is not made of the mush that comprises most of WDC, therefore I am hopeful he hangs the Rats with any shutdown, & refuses to give in to the socialists.
I am curious about his condition. Even if he didnt want to appear in public, he could get huge publicity by calling reporters or radio shows. The fact that he has not done so is telling.

He was having issues caused by the original tumor (during a Congressional hearing) right before the tumor was discovered. It was removed, but has recurred in the original site so I would imagine those symptoms are recurring. He was having speech problems so that would preclude radio interviews. Also, glioblastoma travels along nerve cells so other aspects of his brain function are likely affected by now. One theory out there is the boot he’s been wearing is possibly because he has suffered ‘foot drop’ due to what is going on with his brain. I don’t expect him to return to the Senate & I think further evidence of the seriousness of his condition is that Meghan got married almost immediately after her engagement so her father could be there & that was back around Thanksgiving.
From link:
In addition, speech problems are tied to glioblastoma. [Dr.] LaPook said that one possible example that may have been a precursor to the diagnosis occurred during the James Comey hearing last month. McCain faltered for words during the public hearing in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
