Nor is age. Biggest increase is in older mothers. Late 20s and up. These aren’t teens who aren’t thinking straight. These are adults who are planning on single parenting.

Yeah, if only someone had called out that Murphy Brown character back in the 80's...

I’m going to argue against myself a bit here. Yes some of the women are choosing to have kids out of wedlock until they are eight to ten years older. I realize that. It would be my guess, they are probably more upwardly mobile though, and if so wouldn’t contribute so much to the idea children born out of wedlock would necessarily be born in poverty.

I believe there are still a lot of kids having babies at more traditional ages, add a few years.

Then there are those who have kids much younger in the inner cities.

My wife and I were on vacation on day years ago. I believe the show was Oprah of all things, and the topic of the day was mothers who want their young children to get pregnant. There were three or four moms on the program with 12-13 year old children, professing to want them to be pregnant.

That was disgusting to me. It should have been illegal also.

I think kids need two parents in the home, a mom and a dad. This is the most healthy environment, despite what others are trying to scam the public with these days.

So age isn’t the only concern. The monetary status isn’t the total issue either.

Thanks for bringing up the issue of age, and (poor, in my view) choices by older women.
