Canadian police say an alleged scissor attack on an 11-year-old girl's hijab never happened.
The girl made headlines last week after she said a man came up to her and tried to cut her hijab off.
Toronto police now say the incident, which they were treating as a hate crime, "did not happen".
The investigation sparked a national outcry, including from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who expressed his concern on Twitter.
"After a detailed investigation, police have determined that the events described in the original news release did not happen," the police said in a brief press release on Monday morning. "The investigation is concluded."

Lesson to everyone: if a story is poorly sourced and it seems “to good to be true”, it probably is.
False police reports like this should be considered a hate crime.
Hoaxsters should be subject to the same penalties and as would apply to someone who actually did the deed.
I’m sure the authorities will reasonably excuse this now commonplace crime.

Still waiting for the “national outcry” over the bad girl’s criminal behavior, over the government rushing to premature conclusions, over the press falling for the hoax and, most of all, over the gullible people who so wanted it to be believe it to be true.

Yes indeed! False flag operations are as likely as any other hate crime to cause real damages. They are an incitement to violence.
Do we have a list of all the hoax “hate crimes”? If so, I imagine it’s even longer than the list of reason why Hillary lost (none of which were her fault and none of which were anything Trump did right).
How many of these hoaxes have there been just by Muslims? Of course the pernicious fact is that the accusation itself gets all the attention; nobody remembers the retraction or the debunking. In other words, these scum got exactly what they wanted with little to no repercussion to them.
