Im telling you he did not use that word, George. And Im telling you its a gross misrepresentation. How many times do you want me to say that? Sen. David Perdue told host George Stephanopoulos on ABCs This Week Sunday.
The gross misrepresentation was that language was used in there that was not used and also that the tone of that meeting was not contributory and not constructive, he said.
Perdue, a Georgia Republican, attended the meeting last Thursday with other GOP and Democratic lawmakers seeking to hammer out a deal on immigration when Trump reportedly wondered out loud why the US accepts immigrants from shithole countries, referring to Africa, Haiti and El Salvador.
The Washington Post reported on the remarks later Thursday and Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin confirmed the presidents use of the language the next day.
Sen. Tom Cotton, another attendee, said he didnt hear what Durbin claims and questioned the Illinois lawmakers motivation.
I certainly didnt hear what Sen. Durbin has said repeatedly. Sen. Durbin has a history of misrepresenting what happens in White House meetings, though. So perhaps we shouldnt be surprised by that, Cotton said on CBS Face The Nation.
Ben Marter, a spokesman for Durbin, shot back at Perdues comments and said the issue comes down to credibility.
Senator Durbin has it. Senator Perdue does not. Ask anyone whos dealt with both, he wrote on Twitter.

If you beat the Mitt out of him, there wouldn't be anything left...
Well phrased!
None of that will work, either. From what I understand from reading about that type of help, after extensive water systems are put in, it isn’t unusual for the recipients to dig it up after the volunteers have left. They sell the pipe for profit. Several cultures won’t slaughter cattle even if their children are starving. Having cattle in the yard is kind of like a Cadillac in the driveway, or something. They live for the day, they don’t think about the future.
Then it’s time to walk away and let them die out.
I don’t like that reality, but if that is the reality, then we should accept it.
IMO, Durbin was the source for both people who passed the lie on.
The news media (except FoxNews) was too busy (/s) with other stories and couldnt even mention PDJTs meetings and press conference with the Prime Minister of Norway. Now they have the uninformed population thinking that POTUS mentioned Norway just because it is a very white country. I despise our disinformation media.
Agreed.
What’s really cool is there actually is a recording of the entire private event, or transcript or both. At some point in the negotiations Trump will find a way to get a transcript or the recording into the hands of someone who will just simply expose the truth
Trump always plays these things out according to a plan. Durban just got his nuts caught in a rat trap and he is a rat!
“I didn’t hear it and I wasn’t any further away than Durbin was” is a weak-kneed 9and day late) way to support Trump from the liars.....why not just call Durbin the liar he is?
I don't think there's a Senator in Washington from either part that has a shred of credibility left. Two days ago neither Perdue or Cotton could recall if Trump said what he's accused of saying. Now they've had a near miraculous recovery of memory and are sure he didn't say it?
Yeah, having someone so trusted like Chuck Schumer stepping in and defending the honesty of Durbin is not what I would call a very good character reference......either way.
