Pope: It’s a sin if fear makes us hostile to migrants
AP ^ | jan. 14, 2018 | FRANCES D’EMILIO

Pope Francis has defined hostility and rejection of refugees and migrants as sin, encouraging people to overcome their “fully comprehensible” fears that these new arrivals might “disturb the established order” of local communities.

At his invitation, several thousand migrants, refugees and immigrants from 49 countries joined Francis at Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica on Sunday, a day the Catholic Church dedicated to the issues and contributions of those who leave homelands in hope of a better life.

The word ‘migrant’ can mean many things, and some of those meanings make what the Pope is saying legitimate. However, the Pope needs to realize and acknowledge that not all migrants are innocent and innocuous people just looking for a better way of life. The world isn’t that cut and dried.

Well said. He is very unwilling to make some judgments but not others. Wonder if he is conflicted about accepting donations from white, male, heterosexual capitalists.

Even though I don’t have any figures, I agree here. 8 billion dollars is a drop in the bucket.

He hates the sinners, not the sin.

I wonder how many Catholics have bailed on their church since they elected this idiot to run them?

Some bloggers have started calling the pope “The Francis.”

I have decided to use that nomenclature in the future.it’s all about him, you see.

It’s a sin that this “pope” actually thinks he’s a Godly man

Great. The Vatican can take in all the “migrants” it wants. They can even take in all the illegal invaders here.

These days you just cannot be against a PC policy for good reasons. Either you “fear” the policy (as the Pope noted), or you are some sort of racist.

A rational discussion is not allowed. So say liberals. And now so says the Pope.

hatred of refugees is a sin.

Refusing them entry is not.

Again - if the pope or national leaders are so gosh darned caring about refugees they can support efforts to overthrow the hostile government and install ones run by the countries these refugees want to come too.

Oh I’m sorry - does that not fit your ideology Pope?

Sorry but I don’t have a problem with what he said.

“New arrivals must ‘know and respect the laws, the culture and the traditions of the countries that take them in,’ he said. Local communities must “open themselves without prejudices to their rich diversity, to understand the hopes and potential of the newly arrived as well as their fears and vulnerabilities.’”

So put another way, we should give legal migrants a chance to assimilate into our culture, and we should try to understand where they are coming from, culturally, but overall we shouldn’t let “fear” rule our judgement of them. Just like we shouldn’t be slaves to emotions (like liberals) but rather we should submit to reality.

He’s said some dumb things IMO, (re “AGW”) but this isn’t one of them. He clearly said migrants should respect the laws of their host countries. Which is exactly what we all say re illegal immigrants.

Nothing personal, but . . . So weary of pope news, joy reid news, rosie news, sean penn news. Since they’re all the same, couldn’t we just see one aggregate, predictable story per day?

He’s a former nightclub bouncer.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I’ve heard that he never set foot in America before he was in his 70s (not just ‘as Pope’). He sound very worldly. He sounds like he gets his facts about the USA from CNN Internationale...

Far more than 8 billion dollars. On a tour of the Vatican a few years ago the guide was bragging that the Catholic Church holds 1/4 of the worlds priceless art and artifacts. Not bad for a Savior who put such stock in materialism that He has no place to lay His head and owned only the garments He wore

Yep. The Pope should lead by example. But of course he won’t.

It’s worth noting that Vatican citizenship is one of the most difficult citizenships to get in the world. It’s true that Vatican City is small, very small. But there is plenty of room in the Vatican gardens for a high-rise or two. Francis could build a couple of apartment building there. Those buildings could house hundreds of migrants.

Come on, Francis. Lead by example.
