‘Here is what my #s-hole looks like’: African countries and Haiti react to Trump’s remark

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — President Trump’s dismissal of Haiti, El Salvador and African nations as “s-hole countries” whose inhabitants are not desirable for U.S. immigration shocked people around the world and provoked swift condemnation.

“The African Union Commission is frankly alarmed at statements by the president of the United States when referring to migrants of African countries and others in such contemptuous terms,” said Ebba Kalondo, the spokeswoman for the African Union.

The reaction from the United Nations human rights spokesman, Rupert Colville, was uncharacteristically blunt. He described the remark as “racist.”

In Haiti, people took to Twitter to share pictures of their country — verdant green hills, palm trees in the sunset, and sparkling turquoise water.

“Hey #S-HolePresident!” wrote Harold Isaac. “Here is what my #s-hole looks like.”

The deputy secretary general of the African National Congress, the party once led by Nelson Mandela, hit back at Trump’s comment during a news conference in South Africa.

“Ours is not a s-hole country. Neither is Haiti or any other country in distress,” Jessie Duarte said.

The deputy secretary general of the African National Congress, the party once led by Nelson Mandela, hit back at Trump’s comment during a news conference in South Africa.

This is really something. The deputy secretary general of the ANC, which represents a continent that is home to some of the most corrupt, brutal dictatorships in the world, which even as we speak is racked with bloody and seemingly endless civil wars, which has seen genocide and suppression of minorities based solely on race, whose countries are in a perpetual state of crisis and in spite of enormous natural resources cannot seem to feed their own people, is going to take Donald Trump to task for daring to speak the truth to those who would do nothing but deny it? One could hardly find a greater irony, which would be laughable if not for being so tragic.

Right.

And there are other implications as well.

If so, the whole region is a toilet.

Toilets can be cleaned, but the toilet has to want to be cleaned so to speak.

Nailed it. All the refugees should be rushing to go home if their home counties are so wonderful.

I have family and friends from sub Sahara Africa, and they are fabulous people. That said, while I might not have used the precise term Trump used to describe the states and governments of that region, I am hard pressed to think of a better or more apt one.

The states are pathetic, and someday it will be fair to ask why. Their people deserve better. The same applies to Mexico.

The problem is Trump was right (and should have owned up to it). For the most part, Trump speaks like a lot of average working American’s, but as President, apparently, such real world language is forbidden and labeled un-Presidential. Personally, frak’em, I voted for an individual running for President who talks my language and I like it! Shows he is NOT a frakin’ ‘a’ typical politician who watches every frakin’ word they say and beats your around the bush trying to answer a simple yes or no question......

I think it was Dick Durbin’s own mind and that will become clear, leaving these dear Democrats ultimately holding the political bag for the nasty statement.

I agree.

If these countries were taken care of maybe so many people wouldn’t be fleeing to the USA.

By the way, a country that the Left used to hold up as an example--Venezuela--has turned into a s***hole in less than 20 years. Though the Left is loathe to admit it, we may be witnessing a famine on a per-person scale that is just as bad as the famine caused by the Great Leap Forward in China from 1958 to 1963.

I see there is a few tree’s left that haven’t been eaten yet.
I wonder how much a week would cost at that lovely white painted hotel?
It’s got a nice view...

I actually think the President should deliver a few minutes live, during some other speech he is giving. He should explain that he’d like to apologize for something he said the other day.

“I know I said some off the cuff remarks about some of the countries on this wonderful planet we all share. I even used some sharp language that clearly could be seen as an insult. I do regret that. That was not a good example for the children of this world, especially for children from these lands.

“But what makes a bad - I’ll just be honest, that’s the word that needs to be used here - country a bad country? Is it the people? No. It’s never the people. The people all over the world are wonderful people. What makes a country bad, is its government. And that is to what I was referring. A country which takes in financial aid from successful countries all over the world, but uses the money to enrich its leaders and not to help the people, is a BAD country. A country who attacks its own citizens and who won’t protect them from enemiesis a bad country.

“What proves that a country is a sh... - whoops, I almost said it again - a bad country, is that its people will do ANYTHING to get out of there and to try to escape to a freer country. Some might even risk death to try to get out. Because some countries are WORSE than, say, living in an outhouse. Good people there are not allowed to have a chance to have a safe life, a free life, a successful life.

“But I do apologize for using a word Presidents shouldn’t probably ever use.”

There’s a reason they are called the 3rd world. It’s because 3rd world sounds better than shitholes.
The left loves euphemisms like a southern belle uses “Isn’t that nice?” with a creep hitting on her. But if the masher tried to move on her, she would flatten him.

That’s all Trump is doing: flattening them by telling it like it is, saying it like we do here on FR an elsewhere. When they want to move here for the gibs, they are beggars from shitholes who want to make us 2nd or even 3rd world as well. The `rats just want their votes fo gibs.

We’re not Europe. We escaped Europe and made something special here. Get the gibsmedats outta here. We don’t need anchors, we need oarsmen.
