Jim Renacci Enters Ohio’s US Senate Race With White House Backing

The gaping problem facing Ohio Republicans has been resolved with the candidacy of Jim Renacci. The Congressman from Wadsworth is currently a candidate for Governor is switching gears and running for United States Senate instead. This will solve two problems. Republicans will have a credible candidate to battle Sherrod Brown this fall and it also helps lighten the crowded field for the gubernatorial primary.

The Ohio Republican had meetings at the White House this week to discuss the idea of switching races. Having the backing of President Trump is a shot in the arm to a new Senatorial campaign. Renacci supported Trump during the primary at a time when elected Ohio Republicans were bullied into supporting John Kasich’s struggling campaign.

He appears to be a good candidate to help advance the Trump agenda.

Yes, he isn’t a confused crank incapable of understanding elementary economics and would not support using a political weapon, a tariff, to disrupt and misallocate economic factors.

He runs political ads on TV in SW Ohio. Almost fell asleep during the last one. I’ll give him a look over, but on first view, he’s got low charisma.

We need Senators who will side with the citizens and the rule of law.
There are currently only 4 who marginally side with US.
Cotton, Grassley, Paul and Cruz.
The rest work for the Cheap Labor Express.

Good news.

JD Vance would be a preposterous candidate.

For Governor that leaves Mary Taylor and DeRineo. I’d pick Taylor.

The element of economics? Really? Where in economics does it say that the citizens will pay income taxes to the Federal govt at the same time globalist corporations get to close factories here, lay off the US workforce, move the factory to the third world and import the product back into the USA duty free? Is that economics, corruption or politics, or a mixture of all three? The process described above is called global labor arbitrage. A sophisticated term but maybe you could learn what it means if you tried a little.

Charging citizens an income tax while letting imports come in duty free IS EVIL.

Most of your complaints (real and imagined) are POLITICAL in nature and have little to do with ECONOMICS. The latter is concerned with the allocation of resources and factors of production to maximize market efficiency, productivity and profitability.

Even though a product might be duty free, it is still taxed at the retail level by sales taxes just as domestically produced products are.

You want a federal government so big and so powerful that private corporations are not allowed to relocate when that is to their advantage? And to set prices through a tariff. Sorry but that is far too big and powerful a government.

And you believe tariff rates would not be subject to corruption and lobbying? Read a little history about the tariff in this country by real historians and economists.

Those of us who oppose bigger and more powerful government have to oppose tariffs for POLITICAL reasons in addition to the indisputable ECONOMIC reasons against them.

How many of Ohio’s products are exported? Should governments retaliate against them because we stupidly put a tariff on imports? How much money will that cost Ohioans?

Nonsense. Where are the Illegals working- big corporations and factories? No, most are involved in agricultural, domestic work, and low-end jobs. They are competition to natives (particularly the young) who do that type of work.

While it is a nice rhetorical device there is no “Cheap Labor Express”.

Entire industries are reliant on illegal alien labor.
Landscaping, construction, food processing, hospitality and more.
Agriculture employs a small number of the 30 million illegal aliens.

Landscaping yes but I would not call that a critical or major industry. There may be in some areas problems in construction but you can blame the Democrat opposed to enforcing the laws for that. How many motels and convenience stores would go out of business without the illegals?

When you determine the net effect of Illegalism on our GNP is not in the plus column. It is driven as much or more by non-labor considerations.

Do you seriously contend that there are more than a handful directly hired by IBM, GM, Ford or even Google?

It is true that small operations might hire them but this is not the part of the economy which is highly productive. Those wealthy enough to hire maids, cleaning ladies, nannies and gardners might be upset by opponents of Illegalism but that won’t get a lot of sympathy.
