Congressional negotiators are closer than is publicly acknowledged to finalizing an immigration deal that would codify legal protections for undocumented minors while giving President Donald Trump some tangible victories of his own.
The deal, which is largely being forged in the Senate, still faces major hurdles; chief among them a healthy skepticism by conservativesincluding some officials in the Trump White Houseand a difficult path to passage in the House. But one lawmaker told The Daily Beast that there was a growing sense of optimism that negotiators will end up with an agreement that could, at a minimum, pass the Senate and put pressure on others to then act.
Congressional sources were universally cagey in talking about the specifics. But in numerous conversations with lobbyists and aides, the basic contours were laid out as follows.
The final deal will reinstate the legal protections for so-called DREAMers that President Trump rescinded when he ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that began under his predecessor. The deal will also undo another Trump decision: the termination of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for certain groups of immigrants, including Salvadorans, 200,000 of whom could face an end to their legal status in 2019.
In exchange for backpedaling two of his initiatives, Trump would score some real policy victories. The deal will revamp but not end the visa lottery program, numerous sources said. There are also ongoing talks of reworking the formula around so-called chain migration, including the possibility of altering the ability of those DREAMers to sponsor their relatives for legal status...
The final deal will also include money for some sort of physical structure along the southern border.

And I also understand not holding them responsible for the sins of the parents. BUT - IF there must be some kind of amnesty - there should be some serious requirements:
- #1 - any criminal activity should be a disqualifier.
- #2 - Anyone hoping to qualify for this amnesty should be required to report in and then be monitored for a time period before being granted any sort of permanent legal status. Again - any sign of criminal activity - goodbye.
- #3 - Self-sufficiency - are they working, keeping a job, paying taxes, etc. after #2 above? IF not - goodbye.
To which I would demand that any child of illegal immigrants who has been educated in the US and continues to demonstrate a lack of proficiency in the language and this nation's history - in other words - cannot pass the citizenship test without foreign language assistance - fails to receive any legal or taxpayer funded protections and results in deportation.
Count the number of these illegals that have been here for generations and cannot competently communicate in English, yet manage to obtain free education, taxpayer funded benefits, housing benefits, health care coverage, drivers licenses, professional licenses, voting privileges despite lack of legal residency. ENOUGH!
I called Prez, Rep, & Sen to oppose Any Amnesty, and build the Entire US Mex border all!
Thanks for this DC contact info reminding us to at least try to save our free republic..
There should be chain deportation.
It's just sad that with the GOP control of the House and Senate, the RINOs are the ones that have to be dealt with.

No....I was responding to someone elses post
I completely agree with your reply.
I heard Michael Berry state about John Cornyn being seen leaving that meeting with a big crap-eating grin, that when that occurs, America is going to get screwed....and I believe it. Cornyn should probably be our number one primary target.
