RICHMOND, Va. A federal appeals court denied Fredericksburg-area voters request to block Republican Bob Thomas from being seated in the House of Delegates, just hours before the General Assembly session began.
A Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals panel in Richmond denied the motion seeking to keep Thomas from being seated due to dozens of people who voted in the wrong races in the Fredericksburg area. Thomas beat Democrat Joshua Cole by 73 votes.
The decision cleared the way for Republicans to elect Del. Kirk Cox of Colonial Heights as House Speaker.
In a separate race, Democrat Shelly Simonds has not announced any new challenges in the tied race out of Newport News that GOP Del. David Yancey won in a random drawing last week.
If you're THAT DAMN STUPID, YOU SHOULDN'T BE VOTING!....................
Ignorance is the best excuse for Democrat voters. It’s a way of life issue.
They give the direction in Spanish?
EDIT:
They DIDN’T give the direction in Spanish?
Hahaha. Winning!
If you’re too dumb to vote in the right race, then you shouldn’t even be voting to begin with.
Although this decision was favorable to my concerns, it seems that the courts are now becoming an integral part of every election.
Dont blame the voters....blame the bus drivers hired by the Dems to haul these asshats around.
As bad as this election was for Virginians, they dodged a bullet by keeping the majority in the House.
LOL!..................
This is great news. I hope the DOJ goes after illegals voting in the Va. beltway area and the voter fraud committed but the dimwits. I can only hope that Va. turns back to conservative led.
If you need a ballot, you shouldnt be voting. An informed voter could write their picks on a blank sheet of paper.
Guess the bus drivers just dropped them off wherever they saw one of these signs, not caring about the district...
The fredericksburg election was just a big mess. Redistricting created “split districts”, where one precinct would actually have more than one district, so you are given a different ballot based on where you live.
THe question is whether the specific address assignments were correct. On one hand, the maps seem to show some errors were made, on the other hand, the addresses are assigned the same as they were in every election since 2011, so this is not some new thing.
Nobody knows whether the specific people who may have been pushed into the wrong precinct would have mattered or not.
The issue of “disenfranchisement” is also a tricky one. Every person got to vote for SOME candidate. Some small number may have voted for a candidate they weren’t legally assigned to. But really, if I live on the left side of the street, and my neighbor on the right has a different representative, does is really matter which one either of us voted for?
Apparently, they are pretty sure now that some dozens of voters in the 28th were instead given 88th ballots, and some dozens of voters in the 88th were given 28th ballots.
Technically, this was not an issue of the voters being stupid, although in some sense it shows how broken our system is — most people show up to vote their party, and have NO CLUE who actually represents them, and therefore find nothing wrong when given a ballot.
I can assure you that if I were given a ballot for the wrong district, I would know, because I KNOW the people who represent me.
That sign is misspelled...it should read “Vota Here!”
Democrat Simonds concedes tied Newport News [VA] race
This was the race in which the Republican won by a random drawing, due to a ballot in which the voter had filled in both candidates but had drawn a line through Simonds.
I’m in that Fredericksburg area. Yes, we dodged a bullet, but it’s ashamed that we came that close to losing the State General Assembly. Especially, when we held a 18 majority before the election. The Swamp is slowly leaking to parts further South in Virginia.
That sign says, “Vote Here”. “Here” is in Spanish. Why is the second word in Spanish? That is weird.
Ha!
