The controversial White Racism class at Florida Gulf Coast University is set to begin Tuesday morning.
The brand new course has sparked controversy since it was first announced back in November. People from coast-to-coast have reacted to professor Dr. Ted Thornhills brand new course.
Individuals started posting on the comment section and on social media, all types of vile statements, Thornhill said. Wishing ill will toward me and my family, referring to me with racial epithets.
But despite all the backlash, the class will be in session for the first time Tuesday and Thornhill says hes not backing down.
MORE: FGCUs White Racism course sparks controversy The course needs to be taught, and so, thats whats going to happen, Thornhill said. Its a legitimate course.
Yet, students still believe the course title should be changed.
I think they should change the name, said FGCU freshman Sabrina Lynch. Like, if you go out with the headline white racism or like, white supremacy, immediately everyone is going to be like, oh my god, we need to stop this.'
Thornhill says FGCU plans to have uniformed police officers outside the classroom as a precaution.
I, along with others, thought it was a prudent decision given the nature of some of the things that were said online and directed toward me, as well as a couple of students who were enrolled in the course expressed concern about issues of safety and security, Thornhill said.
Some students agree with the extra security based off of the attention the course has been receiving.
I think its necessary considering the name they chose and the response theyre getting, Lynch said. I think its a good precaution. If they chose a different name, maybe they wouldnt need the police. But, you chose that name, now you gotta take that route.
Despite the extra security and the negative response to the White Racism course, some students still believe this course is necessary for FGCU because of prior incidents that happened on campus.
I think its important we talk about these issues, especially because weve had these issues on campus, said FGCU senior Brittani Anderson. I think the name is a little controversial, but take the class and see what its about before you judge it.
White Racism begins at 9 a.m., and students are able to register for the wait list
“ome students still believe this course is necessary for FGCU because of prior incidents that happened on campus.”
These wouldn’t happen to be the hoax incidents over the recent past, would it?
..like....like...like...grow up
White racism, white privilege, .... Ive stopped caring.
Sure it is. Have you ever perused the list of useless legitimate courses colleges have to offer now?
One huge problem with the politics of resentment is that by the time ‘retribution’ begins, the perpetrators are no longer the target - the innocent are.
I identified every course prospective hires had taken, even when the course titles were unclear, as a window into character. If I saw “white racism” on a transcript, I would never have hired the job candidate.
The sooner the post secondary institutions get measured on their ability to get jobs for students, the better.
If this article reflects the standard of learning at FGCU, what the student’s [sic] really need is Remedial English.
This is where I was hoping my 16 year old would end up going to college. Back to the drawing board.
They need some confidence-building programs as well; much of this nonsense is pushed by administrators who believe blacks and Hispanics are genetically inferior to, and incapable of performing as well as, white people.
Rather than strive to achieve, these minorities are learning that reading, writing, and ‘rithmetic are white fabrications to marginalize non-whites.
Consider those who have the most influence over choices in courses. Alumni in corporations, regents? And what outcome do they seek in the near future? Violence? Relocation?
Or are they simply simple?
FAKE EDUCATION is the reason for all the fake news.
For a moment, I thought the course was about racial discrimination against white people.
Then I learned it was about how to be racist to white people.
What, no Black Racism to supplement it?
Yet, a course on black racism which is virulent, widespread and much more violent than white racism would not be allowed by the administration.
I had scheduled meetings in that area today and have cancelled. I don’t want to deal with the BS!
With a name like Ted Thornhill I expected the instructor was a self hating white guy. I was wrong, he’s just a black guy who hates whites.
The war on whites being waged in the Universities will not stop until we end federal funding for schools engaged in blatantly anti white racism. The Trump Education and Justice departments needs to get on this.
The left is just being open about their hatred for Whitey.
