Staving off starvation is the only thing that would convince me to ever eat muscles, let alone raw ones.

What an odd article.
She died way back in Oct. Why now?
No, there is no real reason. Just to “raise awareness”, but it’s very short and to the point and that’s it. Don’t understand the real point of printing this.
Sorry for her.

“They went crabbing with friends and family on the coast, picking up a sack of raw oysters in a market in Westwego.”
Don’t stop, don’t look, and whatever you do, never get food is Westwego.

I was introduced to oysters--in New Orleans, ironically--many years ago. My impression was that they were largely over-rated, at least when eaten raw. I mostly remember the inevitable few grains of sand that seem to accompany every oyster.
Still, what a way to die. I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

How does eating oysters give you flesh eating bacteria? I understand getting it in cuts through the skin or from surgery - but Not consumption?

“people can become infected with vibrio after eating raw or under-cooked shellfish or by exposing open wounds to brackish water.
LeBlanc had been in contact with both.”
The headline blames the oysters, but the article suggests that she may have also exposed open wounds to brackish water. Maybe it wasn’t the oysters?

Am I so cynical to think that this story would have never made the news had this been a traditional married couple?

I’m from New Orleans where raw oysters are a delicacy. But I would never eat any seafood raw. I love fried oysters and charbroiled oysters.

One of the reasons God said don’t eat them...they’re not fit for human consumption.
