Scott Adams tells you how Jeff sessions may have started the process toward making weed legal
Twitter ^ | 4 Jan 2018 | Scott Adams

Scott Adams has an interesting take on Sessions' recent announcement regarding federal pot laws enforcement. It's interesting on a couple of levels. It implies that Sessions is doing that 4D chess thing that the pro-Sessions people like to think, and if that's so, it makes me wonder (and desperately hope) that the Freep Sessions-cheerleading-section are right about his ability to work at a higher level than we Never-Sessions people can appreciate.

...but I dream.

No they can enforce the federal law against the States!! They override inferior laws and that is encased in steel.State drug laws may not contradict federal law!! IN ANY AREA!!That is not my opinion— that is the final law as articulated by the Supreme Court of the Unites States of America!!

"No, it assumes a public that will demand that their irrational and malfunctioning legislators get off their duffs and do what is required."

Congress never listed which drugs should be illegal. That authority is exercised by the executive branch.

It always amazes me when Conservatives want a small Federal government except for the part of the Federal government that enforces the laws they agree with.

Make no mistake: Conservatives LOVE big government, as long as it's THEIR big government.

Pot smokers are so illogical that any fiddling for any purpose other than a direct and full repeal of pot laws will merely cause them to show up to vote (D) no matter how stupefied they are at the time.

Who ties your shoe laces for you? This has got to be one of the most ignorant statements I've ever heard here on FR. You have NO CLUE what you are talking about.

"No they can enforce the federal law against the States!!"

The drug laws aren't dictating to the states. They don't require the states to agree or disagree. No state is compelled to round up pot smokers because there's a federal law against it. That's not how it works.

"They override inferior laws and that is encased in steel.State drug laws may not contradict federal law!!"

There is no inferior law at issue here and the state laws aren't contradicting federal law. The federal government may decide to ban pot. That doesn't mean states have to enforce it. It's entirely up to the federal government to enforce it's laws.

"That is not my opinion— that is the final law as articulated by the Supreme Court of the Unites States of America!!"

You are misunderstanding the legal principles involved.

I did not read what Adams said but it does occur to me that Sessions has given Congress a reason to pass laws legalizing it. Someone in Congress should have the guts to introduce a bill allowing states to pass a law opting out of federal marijuana laws. I don’t know who could oppose that.

Prohibitionist logic failure.

Medical marijuana passed in Florida with 71% of the vote and Trump won Florida that very same night. I voted for it & Trump & every Republican on the ballot—including foamboy Rubio as did my very conservative wife (visualops) & son.

I’m a daily user of cannabis since 2015 & also a very thankful medical marijuana patient here in Florida.

State law does NOT preempt Federal law here — It never has and it never will.

Can you point to the section of the Constitution that supports your assertion, n00b?

This site is called Free Republic. Taken, surely, from our founders’ words. Freedom for thee means freedom for “me.” Your lifestyle, your religion, living it YOUR WAY. It takes a true understanding of freedom, explained pretty damn well in the Declaration and constitution, missing from the brains of many FReepers who think that if your lifestyle is yucky to ME you shouldn’t be allowed to have it.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In the desires of that individual.

What you don’t understand is that the Feds are now going to close these pot shops by putting pot heads in prison. The state cannot stop them because they preempt the state law real bad!! Just like the Feds are picking up illegal aliens by the thousands in these so called sanctuary cities. They are not obstructing the justice demanded in our superior federal laws. You are missing the point very badly.

Cab you provide the statistics that back up your claim?

All I can speak to is myself and other conservative friends of mine that don’t fit your “profile”.

I'm not the person in question. And I disagree with his Big Government views. But, Article VI is what you're looking for.

Sad it would make someone “so happy” to see others locked up for whatever reason. You sound like an awful person.

If legislators don’t like the law, they are free to change it. That’s what we pay them to do. Law enforcement is not free to decide which laws to enforce and which to ignore. That’s what we pay them to do.

Are you “sad” , for example, in seeing a child rapist locked up or does that make you happy? At what crime level do you get sad ?

Sorry, but I think Adams is way off. Sessions didn’t kick anything back to the states, he is back to enforcing existing law, which says the Federal regulations overrule the states via the supremacy clause.

As for Congress, they cannot do anything without violating the obligations of all those drug control treaties we forced the rest of the world to sign on to. I don’t think the courts will do anything to resolve the conflict in favor of the states either, because even conservative justices have shown they are willing to prop up bad interpretations of the commerce clause when it comes to enforcing federal drug laws.

“I got mine in Law school.”

Do you come across as an angry infant in court too?

Prohibitionists, in my experience are always so angry.
