President Donald Trump directed his White House counsel to tell Attorney General Jeff Sessions not to recuse himself from the Justice Department's investigation into potential ties between Russia and the Trump campaign, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The conversation between Don McGahn, the president's White House counsel, and Sessions took place on the president's orders and occurred just before the attorney general announced that he would step aside from the ongoing inquiry into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, according to a person with knowledge of the interaction. Two other people confirmed details of the conversation between McGahn and Sessions.

Probably smart thing to do for Session’s sorry ass, but direliction of his duty as AG.

Sessions was playing the high-minded, noble fool, which Republicans like to do.

And he should not have recused himself, or else he could personally put an end to this witch hunt.

So Trump tried to get someone to convince Sessions not to do something Trump has always said he didn’t think Sessions needed to do?!?!

And this is news, why exactly?

And then Sessions did it anyway, so far with no repercussions (other than maybe verbal).

Again, why is this news...

AP source: Trump had lawyer urge Sessions not to recuse self.

Sessions has got to GO. He clearly is not up to the job, and the longer Trump lets this fester, the worse it will get.

I knew it was buried in there somewhere

The episode is known to special counsel Robert Mueller and his team of prosecutors and is likely of interest to them as they look into whether Trump's actions as president,
including the May firing of FBI Director James Comey, amount to improper efforts to obstruct the Russia investigation. Investigators recently concluded a round of interviews
with current and former White House officials, including McGahn and former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus.

Trump would be in a worse position today with Sessions overseeing the whole matter.

Think about it ...

Here we are in January 2018, and the whole Trump/Russia collision bullsh!t story has been turned completely on its head ... with more and more evidence coming out that it was the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. intelligence apparatus that were colluding to rig the 2016 election.

What makes these revelations so damaging and credible is that they are coming out while a so-called "independent" official (Mueller) appointed by the U.S. Justice Department is the one who is leading the investigation.

If Sessions had been involved, all of these revelations would be passed off as nothing more than a partisan ass-covering campaign.

Remember when Sessions said he conferred with his new DoJ staff (leftovers) as to the law pertaining to his recusal. They convinced him the law required he recuse and doing the honorable thing did so.

The problem was, they were all deep staters....probably the likes of which we've reading about; Yates, Rosenstein, and down the line. Inexcusable Sessions couldn't see the obvious.

They obviously know by now there is no collusion to pursue, so they’re trying to find something to give the impression of obstruction. That will fail as well, but they keep the narrative going longer at this point.

On one hand, the media tries to portray Trump as a maniacal tyrant- a dictator-bossing around his own people, as well as the country.

Then they publish an article that shows that even his own staff don't follow his directions.

So, media, what is it? Is he a bully, or is he a pushover?
