Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray met with House Speaker Paul Ryan this week to request that Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee narrow the scope of a document request, according to a Politico report.
The committee had issued a request for documents and witness interviews related to the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. In the meeting with Rosenstein and Wray, Politico reported, Ryan suggested that the department release the full trove of requested documents.
The two sides eventually reached a deal, and Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the chairman of the Intelligence Committee, announced that the Justice Department had agreed to "provide the committee with access to all the documents and witnesses" it had requested.
The meeting, which came at the request of Rosenstein and Wray, came as some congressional Republicans step up their criticism about the Justice Department's handling of the Russia probe, which, in particular, is looking at possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.
AshLee Strong, a spokeswoman for Ryan, told Politico that the speaker "always expects the administration to comply with the Houses oversight requests, and he will support his chairmen when they make them."
Some Republican lawmakers have raised questions about partisanship in the Russia probe and whether investigators are unfairly targeting President Trump. Democrats, on the other hand, have accused Republicans of trying to protect the White House from a probe into potential wrongdoing.
Another day, another obfuscation...............
Reached a deal? Release the documents to treasonous scumbag FBI & DOJ!
These people don’t know who they’re working for...
My imagination says Rosenstein and Wray explained to Ryan that if this information was released it would be the end of the FBI.
Since Wray took Rosenstein’s side look for him to be out of a job by Summer.
Isn’t this Obstruction of Justice?
I think they wantd to narrow is so as to not include Bruce Ohr’s wife.
Ironic that no one narrowed Mueller’s “investigation.”
Sorry but is way too late for this request.
If Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray had not ignored the requests there would be some good will to trade on. But their political accounts, individually and collectively, are empty.
Now they have to rebuild those accounts by being TOTALLY compliant to any and all requests for documents. They, Rosenstein and Wray made these beds and now they have to sleep in them!
Nellie Ohr isn't an FBI employee. How can the FBI prevent the Intel Committee from interviewing her?
And of course, no such restriction is placed on Special Counsel Robert Mueller to narrow his investigation. Why, that would be unprecedented, you know, and impinge on the true mission of the Special Counsel.
Which is to remove Trump from office by any means necessary.
No exculpatory testimony or findings are to be entertained.
Ryan suggested that the department release the full trove of requested documents.
Ryan told them hed bring Contempt citations to the Floor Im guessing. They folded.
L
Mueller can go crazy with his investigations, which is pleasing his Democrat Party cronies. Keep the investigation going and Schummer can be the devils advocate day after day, without proposing anything, being against everything the Republicans try to accomplish.
With this FBI crew you need to demand all of the documents because if you give them any legal wiggle room they will use it to hide incriminating documents
So the usual Deep State-owned congress critters sell out.
I don’t trust Ryan at all. He is a part of the problem.
Yikes
Only time will tell what games are being played.
There is your motive.
Mueller has produced a fat Goose Egg for all his “investigations”. The longer it goes on, the worse the narrative looks. I bet 50% of Americans think Mueller is a Cabinet member.
