In a lawsuit that echoes a civil case against President Trump, an Alabama woman on Thursday sued failed U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore and his campaign for defamation, citing harsh personal attacks she faced after coming forward with allegations he touched her sexually when she was 14 years old.
Leigh Corfman is not seeking financial compensation beyond legal costs. She is asking for a declaratory judgment of defamation, a public apology from Moore, and a court-enforced ban on him or his campaign publicly attacking her again. She said in a statement that the suit seeks to do what I could not do as a 14-year-old hold Mr. Moore and those who enable him accountable.
A representative of Moores campaign, Brett Doster, said he had no immediate comment on the lawsuit, filed in state court in Montgomery County, Ala.
Corfman told The Washington Post in November that when Moore was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney in 1979, he took her to his house, undressed her, touched her over her underpants and bra and guided her hand to touch his genitals over his underwear.
Moore has called Corfmans allegations of abuse politically motivated, completely false and malicious. On Nov. 10, the day after the story published, he told Sean Hannity of Fox News he had never met Corfman but he did not rule out that he might have dated older teenagers when he was in his 30s.

She dodged that. She said she added "notes", without mentioning that one of the "notes" was designed to look exactly like Moore's signature.
But this isn't the woman suing Moore. You are referring to Beverly Nelson. The woman suing Moore is Leigh Corfman.
Easy to do when you smell blood in the water, and Democrat billionaires everywhere can't wait to send you money while the Republican party stabs their guy in the back. Yeah, that would make me pretty enthusiastic to watch the other side make such mistakes.
I'm not ignoring it. I don't discuss it because I don't know anyone who voted for Trump in 2016 and refused to vote for Moore in 2017 -- so I have no way of knowing exactly why they didn't vote for Moore.
Sophistry to deny the obvious. It is clear why there were 22 thousand "write in" votes. (breaking all Alabama records for write ins) It's because that backstabbing Richard Shelby urged people to write in.
How about a little honesty? You know exactly why those people didn't come out to vote for Moore. It's because they had been led to believe by the party leadership (and the media) that Moore was a pervert, and they shouldn't vote for him.
What I do know is that Donald Trump faced similar -- even identical -- accusations when he was running in 2016 ... and he still won the damn election.
You are comparing bimbos chasing after a rich powerful man as equivalent to an old guy child molesting and attempting to rape someone?
Again, how about a little honesty here? Trump was never accused of rape. Trump was never accused of child molestation. Trump was accused of taking advantage of women who were throwing themselves at him.
"Grab em by the P***y" makes Trump a boor, but it does not make of him a sick pervert. So stop with the attempt to portray the two things as equal. If someone claimed that Trump tried to molest her when she was 14, and someone else claimed that Trump tried to rape her, and if these two accusations were lumped together with six other women he dated as "8 accusers", Trump would have been done.
That is exactly what I was thinking. Her very dubious pass will seriously damage her credibility, and that's just from the stuff we have learned so far.
No major media continuous scandal story on it, and so ridiculous that no one took it seriously.
“What a disaster this guy was.”
He wasn’t a bad candidate; he was a victim of malicious left-wing terrorists who, “by any means necessary”, needed one more big fat “D” in the Senate.
I’m disappointed that FReepers fell for the lies; I thought we were better than that.
I believe the plaintiff in that case was originally represented by Gloria Allred’s daughter. It was right from the same DNC playbook as the Moore story.
Here’s a link to Moore-Jones polling data. There was one poll in September that had Roy Moore up by 22.
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2017/senate/al/alabama_senate_special_election_moore_vs_jones-6271.html#polls
There are always those push polls from the campaigns that are really about motivating voters to support a candidate, but the scientific polls were much different. That one +22 poll was an early outlier.
And now we have this: “Roy Moore accusers home burns”
http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2018/01/roy_moore_accusers_home_burns.html#incart_river_home
You are now starting to sound as if you "get" what makes many of us suspicious of this sort of crap. This is apparently the MOS of Lisa Bloom, and it appears that her mother was successful at doing the same sort of crap to Roy Moore.
Our side should not have embraced this tactic, and should have instead taken a "wait and see" attitude. The most that should have been said is that "we defer these questions to the people of Alabama to decide."
I agree with you. That's why I never bad-mouthed Roy Moore before the election, even though I had serious concerns about him as a candidate.
Heck -- When these allegations were coming out I told people I would have voted for Moore even if they were all TRUE.
This thread reminds me of the Freeper Rino brigade who secretly root for Democrats.
When I lived in Tucson, we had a GOP candidate named Randy Graf who ran trying to stop illegal immigration and seal the border. He was running against Gabby Giffords and was promptly labeled an “extremist.” Many Freepers bought it and sounded like the ones criticizing Judge Moore on this thread.
The were two women here who actually said they were voting for the radical Giffords. I had fought with them for years. Showed me that many Freepers would get along fine over at DU.
I don't consider "realclearpolitics" to be an accurate non-partisan source. My general rule is that anything coming from them should be automatically discounted.
I have messages on another website in which we discussed the polling data several months ago, and I can probably find out what the source was if I go over there and look at my past messages, but I am loath to participate further on that website, and I don't want to go to the bother of searching through hundreds of messages to find it.
I believe i've seen similar poll numbers here on Free Republic several months ago, but again, it would require searching through a hell of a lot of crap to find them.
If I run across them, i'll grab a link, but i'm not going to make any special effort. 22% is good enough to serve the same point that the 28% serves, and that is to demonstrate that Moore was way ahead before the accusations were thrown into the media propaganda machine.
1. He was a bad candidate.
2. The GOP-e did not help him.
3. Admitting this doesn’t make me a GOP stooge, nor does it foster reasonable debate.
Roy Moore would have been a terrible candidate in New Jersey, or Oregon, or Pennsylvania. In Alabama, Arkansas, or Oklahoma, Roy Moore would have been just fine as a candidate. A lot of people want to judge candidates in other states by the demographics of their own state, and a lot of people don't realize that what will work in their state, might not work in another, and vice versa.
Heck -- When these allegations were coming out I told people I would have voted for Moore even if they were all TRUE.
I eventually came to that same conclusion because Moore has no subsequent history of such behavior, and I believe people can redeem themselves over time. I also postulated the possibility that this Leigh Corfman attempted to pass herself off as an older woman, and didn't inform Moore of her real age until she was in his home in the middle of this hanky panky. (Assuming there is any truth to this story at all.)
I've seen many instances of young girls trying to grow up too fast, and playing exactly this sort of game with older men, and it seems more plausible than the theory that an assistant district attorney would knowingly involve himself with a 14 year old. Presumably this Leigh Corfman would have had the appearance of a fully developed female physique. I can recall several occasions when I was shocked to be told that some particular well developed and tall "woman" was in fact 12 years old.
It happens, and it makes more sense than the story we have been fed.
Are you saying that realclearpolitics.com didn’t correctly report those polls’ data because if you click on any of the individual polls listed it takes you to the original source material. I’m sure that there were even more polls than the 11 different polling organizations that are listed and there could have been some other polls that had Roy Moore up by 28 but that certainly was never a trend.
I agree that the accusations turned the election around. However the conservative Alabamians who turned out in droves for Donald Trump stayed home for Roy Moore.
52 percent of voters said the sexual misconduct allegations against Moore were true, according to exit polls and 89 percent of them voted for Jones. By contrast, 43 percent said they were false, with Moore winning 94 percent of those voters.
And 60 percent said the allegations were at least a minor factor in their vote. Jones won more than two-thirds of them. Among the 35 percent who said the allegations against Moore were not a factor at all, Moore won 76 percent of their votes.
You know what they say, Discovery is a bitch.
Thanks for the correction and info.
No problem. It's not always easy keeping track of who is doing what to whom and for what reason. It sometimes gets so you have to have a program to keep track of all the players.
