These are the fastest speeding tickets in Texas in 2017
The Houston Chronicle ^ | 12/28/2017 | Heather Leighton

Posted on 01/03/2018 8:24:23 PM PST by texas booster

Chron.com reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety to ask about the fastest speeding tickets from January 1, 2017, to November 28, 2017, and out of the more than 230 tickets sent to us, all of them were faster than 120 mph.

Now, the fastest speed limit in Texas is 80 mph, but 120 is still well over the limit and ranges into the category of reckless driving, which is identified by driving faster than 20 mph over the posted speed, according to local law firms.

Because this information is provided by a state agency, tickets issued by city police departments or county sheriff's offices are not included.

Thank you for that cultural addition! That’s a mean guitar solo.

I may have hit 165 in a vette once. or twice. or maybe not. It may have still been pulling like a mule at 165 too. or then again, maybe not.

Fastest I’ve ever driven is somewhere over 120 in ‘61 Buick Special while rat racing with friends. My Dad never knew.

165 mph in a De Tomaso Pantera on Alligator Alley when it was 2-lane in 1970.......felt like 70 except sides of the road were a blur flying by.....thankful no alligators were on the road as was common then....

I have a 2017 Audi A4. It’s smooth as silk and dead quiet at high speeds. I really need to be careful with that thing.

I’m embarrassed to admit I did only 116 in my Challenger once last year right after I got it.

Got a ticket, but not for that time.

Now I pretty much stay near the speed limit.

You haven’t truly lived life if you haven’t experienced a 130 mph ride at least once.

Been there, done that and sold the motorcycle afterwards. When you get to the point that you don't respect the speed and ride like a complete idiot like I was doing, it's time to stop riding. And that's what I did.

I've no idea how I made it through that phase of my life alive.

I was pleasantly surprised that a rental from Silvercar would be so nice.

I have been told that they have implemented speed tracking, but other than the black box tracking, not sure what all technology they would spend the money to implement.

It sure beats renting yet another Malibu ...

I pegged the speedo (120mph) on a ‘69 Mustang Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland. in the ‘80s. I remember how good the car felt at that speed. But I started getting tunnel vision and backed off. I calculated the speed based on the rpm to be about 140mph.

I had one when I was younger with a modified 350. I wish I had that now. It was blue with a black top.

I got my Tacoma up to 100 mph on a gravel road in Big Bend Ranch State Park in about 2013.

It was a very flat, straight road in an area that does not get a lot of rain.

Never again!

1966: 140 in my mother’s 1966 GTO convertible with Powerglide on Route 422 in Eagleville, Montgomery County, PA.

1986: 135 in my Porsche 1976 Porsche 2.0 on Interstate 83 southbound, Sparks, Baltimore County, Maryland.

I find that since buying a car with adaptive cruise control, I don't speed anymore. I simply push a few buttons to set the speed and following distance, and let the car do its thing.

Since the car is a hybrid, the computer is better at optimizing the battery power to apply just the right amount of force for the speed and grade than my heavy foot would be.

It's so good that I even do this on local surface streets.

1981: ~105 1971 Dodge Charger—desert backroads California scary as hell
1982: ~120 1976 Ford F-350–Deserted highway California outran a CHP (pre-radar)
1980s: Ran a ton of musclecars and various rods over 100 in the 1/4 mi, but that was a different era
1989: 130+ Mercedes Sedan—Autobahn smooth as glass

Don’t get much over 90 these days. Nicer cars, but worse roads and traffic here in Florida. My son-in-law just bought an Audi R8, but I don’t really care for it: it’s a technological marvel, but not near as much fun on the road. May take it out on the track someday where we can really open it up.

I like to tell Texans (when they get full of themselves) that Canada has 3 territories and 3 provinces that are larger, and three more provinces that are about the same size.

I have a 2005 A4 Avant, V6, manual. I agree. Best car I’ve had.
Bought used and still with less than 100,000 miles.

So......bikes are better ?

Suzuki is there a few times. Used to have a 750 GSXR, then a 1100 GSXR. Crazy fast. Fastest for me was not on a bike but in my brothers 328 on a desert interstate, 170. Still had a little left in her too.
