Tests run on a little boy allegedly forced to live in a closet in west Harris County show he was exposed to meth, according to an attorney appointed to represent the boy's interests...He told investigators he had been locked in this closet, and according to testimony in court was "...not allowed out of it for hours at a time." He also told investigators "...his friends..." were the "...rats and roaches..." that would visit him. "He can articulate some things that are really shocking and surprising that tell us he was in there for a quite a length of time," Leal-Hudson said.

It's stories like this that have made my reaction to illegal drugs more emotional over the years. This behavior is getting totally out of control.

Or maybe not:

The father though has a history of drug convictions and prior contact with CPS. Until today, authorities say he refused to submit to a drug test.

Anyone doing this kind of thing to kids should be punished.

If the perpetrators are members of congress, employees of intelligence agencies or very wealthy they should be punished.

“The boy doesn’t stand a chance with the adults in his life. “

With the adults now in his life he has a chance.

“If we just made meth legal...”

A lot more people would be in these situations.

Anyone that does meth is crazy to begin with. The stuff is nasty, and it makes you look much older than your chronological age on top of it. Very nasty disgusting drug.

It seems like it eats you from the inside out and the outside in. I don’t understand the mindset that could put such poison into one’s body.

There was a story on FR yesterday about a little boy being beat to death by his stepdad for getting out of bed to get a cookie. Some poor kids don’t have any chance at all in life.

I rate marijuana as the least harmful of all the drugs you listed, but as they keep increasing the strength of it, it too is becoming more dangerous. Duster though is not really a drug, though kids do huff it. In my day kids found out they could huff silver right guard deodorant with aluminum chlorohydrate & get a momentary high.

The hideous look of crystal meth shows on the scarred and prematurely aged faces of those who abuse it. (Photo credit: courtesy Attorney General’s Office, Taswell County, Illinois)

SHORT-TERM EFFECTS

Loss of appetite
Increased heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature
Dilation of pupils
Disturbed sleep patterns
Nausea
Bizarre, erratic, sometimes violent behavior
Hallucinations, hyperexcitability, irritability
Panic and psychosis
Convulsions, seizures and death from high doses

LONG-TERM EFFECTS

Permanent damage to blood vessels of heart and brain, high blood pressure leading to heart attacks, strokes and death
Liver, kidney and lung damage
Destruction of tissues in nose if sniffed
Respiratory (breathing) problems if smoked
Infectious diseases and abscesses if injected
Malnutrition, weight loss
Severe tooth decay
Disorientation, apathy, confused exhaustion
Strong psychological dependence
Psychosis
Depression
Damage to the brain similar to Alzheimer’s disease, stroke and epilepsy

When taken, meth and crystal meth create a false sense of well-being and energy, and so a person will tend to push his body faster and further than it is meant to go. Thus, drug users can experience a severe “crash” or physical and mental breakdown after the effects of the drugs wear off.

Because continued use of the drug decreases natural feelings of hunger, users can experience extreme weight loss. Negative effects can also include disturbed sleep patterns, hyperactivity, nausea, delusions of power, increased aggressiveness and irritability.

Other serious effects can include insomnia, confusion, hallucinations, anxiety and paranoia. In some cases, use can cause convulsions that lead to death.

One pound of meth produces six pounds of toxic waste. Even months after meth labs have been closed, chemical residue still remains.

The chemicals used in the manufacturing process can be corrosive, explosive, flammable, toxic, and possibly radioactive.

Solvent chemicals may be dumped into the ground, sewers, or septic systems. This contaminates the surface water, ground water, and wells.

Traces of chemicals can pervade the walls, drapes, carpets, and furniture of a laboratory site.

So, yes it does indeed do what you perceive it to do, destroy a person from inside out & outside in.

My goodness. Why not just kill “yourself” and get it over with? And terrible about the toxic waste it produces.
