Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) on New Year’s Day called for a revival of “shared facts” in politics and the media.
Sasse released a video saying that the country's system of government “will not work” without a shared understanding of the value of the First Amendment.
“The only way the republic can work is if we come together and we defend each other’s rights to say things that we differ about,” Sasse said in the video. “We defend each other’s rights to publish journalism and pieces and things that we then want to argue about.”
Sasse has in the past defended the First Amendment and criticized censoring news, and appeared to take a swipe at President Trump in the video, saying that it’s “not helpful to call the press the enemy of the American people.”
Trump, who frequently attacks media coverage as “fake news,” earlier this year tweeted that the media is “not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People.”
In the video, Sasse warned of a “new kind of tribalism” that he says will result if Americans surround themselves with “echo chambers” of like-minded people.
“We need to come together as a people and reteach our kids what the First Amendment is about,” he said.

Ben Sasse an embarrassment in every instance
Sasse the Ass. If this video has nothing about free speech on campuses being attacked or Trump supporters being attacked, then this all can be tossed in the Trash. It demonstrates that Ass knows nothing.

In other words, he longs for the good old days where 3 networks controlled the “news” and controlled what Americans were allowed to hear as “news”. He hates a diversity of viewpoints offered by a free and open internet.
The United States Senate is a joke. And Sasse is one of 100 reasons why it is so.
One of his "facts" plainly is that the President doesn't have First Amendment rights.

Yep - and hints that Trump shouldn’t use his own 1st Amendment rights to counter-punch their lies....Trump says, “Tell the Truth” and Sasse says, “If you don’t like the lies about you, shut up so the illiterate snowlflakes don’t feel like you’re telling them to shut up”.....
When is this big mouth fraud up for re-election? I’ll donate all I can to the challenger. So sick of those on our side of the aisle talking such garbage.
