A former Trump campaign aide who took a guilty plea in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe was the linchpin of the FBI’s investigation of Kremlin influence in the 2016 election, new reports say.
In a drunken gossip session with an Australian diplomat in London in May 2016, Trump aide George Papadopoulos claimed that Russia held political dirt on Hillary Clinton, The New York Times said Saturday.
Months later, e-mails hacked from the Democratic National Committee showed up on WikiLeaks, and the Australians told the FBI about the Papadopoulos conversation.
The disclosure sparked the FBI’s probe into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin, sources told the Times.
Papadopoulos, 29, pleaded guilty in October to charges of lying to the FBI about contacts he had with Russians during the 2016 campaign. He is now a cooperating witness.

I doubt this very seriously. It was Glenn Simpson who started it, as bragged by Mrs. Simpson herself. This insignificant person is just being used as a convenient scapegoat now.
Note the use of the term “reports”.

Suppose further they sent a representative to "the Russians" to lobby for their release?
Oh, wait! On July 27, 2016 Donald Trump actually called on the Russians to do exactly that in a public statement which was widely disseminated along multiple news channels. He said, "“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” during a news conference.
This is not, and was not, a crime. What would be a crime would have been to allow the American people to go to the polls in November 2016 without having critical information about one of teh candidates.

It was said by everyone once the Clinton server came to light that she was hacked and her emails were in everyone’s hands.
The more immediate and serious conclusions would be that either the Russians were bluffing, or there has been a compromise of Hillary’s (and the probably the government’s) documents. Did the FBI ratchet up the investigation into Hillary’s practices with classified information?

Congress is literally on the verge of imminent charges of ‘contempt’ issued to grossly and legally insubordinate FBI officials, and suddenly this “dissuasive” and defensive report, which did not surface under all the hours of high pressure and stressful congressional hearings is leaked to the press first, and not in a congressional hearing!
The “dots” (which include but not limited to the “Insurance Policy) we have already connected, determine the truly conspiratorial “Dossier” plan was already paid for by the Clinton Campaign, and being hammered out, with all of its foreign and domestic parts, before much or all of the information in this “2018 EVE” report attempts to expound on.
As well, if this very sketchy Papadopoulos information was so pivotal to the FBI initiating “Unmasking”, “FISA” Warrants, “Wiretaps”, and the pre-intended trigger and appointment of an “Independent Counsel”, as apposed to the grossly false and illegal “Dossier”, THEN WHY WAS PAPADOPOULOS NOT QUESTIONED UNTIL FEBRUARY 2016?
Keep in mind, the moment money was paid to a foreign agent or entity, to help create documents to be used against a political opponent, it became a blatant violation of Federal Election Law.
This “2018 EVE” report is a much more weak foundation for “Unmasking”, FISA Warrants, Wiretapping, and the pre-strategized implementation of an “Independent Counsel” than the flagrantly false “Dossier” itself!
While ridiculously and stupidly false and illegal, at least the “Dossier” was a “Dossier”, compiled by various anti-American/anti-Trump foreign and domestic government and agency actors and agencies!
This late 2018 report, does not even premise anything other than whimsical and speculative hearsay!
In my opinion, we need to know NOW — who was even behind this latest fairytale report installment! They are clearly engaged in proactively trying to amass an FBI campaign of public pressure against Congressional investigators!
Absolutely NOTHING in this convenient “2018 EVE” report actually disproves the politically motivated Clinton paid “Dossier” and truly illegal and weaponized FBI/AG effort to seat Hillary Clinton, while stopping Trump, and or neutralizing Trump if elected!
Really? So this is all it takes to get a FISA warrant?
Heads need to roll.
Special prosecutors investigate alleged crimes. There is no crime in collusion.
And so Mueller is on a witch hunt to find a crime, any crime, in which to trap Trump with.
This Papadopolous story is a last minute attempt to restart the Russia/Trump collusion narrative. Mueller's found no "collusion".
But the democRATS need some hook to hang their hat on to impeach Trump.
This fake news story is their attempt to run away from the Trump-doosier-was-used-to-obtain-FISA-warrant-to-spy-on-Trump storyline since it's headed just a little too close for their comfort into the Obama-Hillary-Clapper-Brennen-Lynch-Comey-committed-crimes territory.
This is their best effort at redirecting the attention of the media and enemies of Trump away from the real crimes of the Obama administration.
This attempt will be discredited for what it is. The fakest of fake news.
This whole concoction is to deflect from the fact that the fake “Trump dossier” was used by the FBI to obtain Fisa warrants.
Folks need to read about what Papadopolous actually “lied” about. The media says he lied about his contacts with Russians. But what Meuller actually alleged is that he lied about the date that he met a British professor to talk about the Russians. Hardly what I would call obstruction of justice.
FWIW...I'd call him a mole.
