TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran said on Saturday that US President Donald Trump's support for protests in the country was "deceitful and opportunist".

"The Iranian people see no value in the opportunistic remarks by American officials and Mr Trump," foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said on its website.

He said Iranians remembered Trump's actions in barring them from entry to the United States and "the arrest of many Iranians in that country on baseless pretexts".

Based on past experience with those that came before, that would be true. But there’s a new sheriff in town.

His support may be opportunistic but it is not deceitful. The President is openly supporting the rebels.

Oh, I’m so scared...

The problem is that Obama armed the Mullahs by letting them get nukes. However, I would suspect that the people, at this point, would not carry out an order to actually use them, even against Jerusalem.

Don’t forget that Iran, prior to the Islamic takeover, had not only a large Christian population but a large Jewish population. Many of both groups fled, but there are probably some quiet and discreet holdouts there. And they are probably among the knowledge and skills class.

“the arrest of many Iranians in that country on baseless pretexts”

I think it’s that whole “Death to America” thing.

Thanks GonzoII. The gentle tap of announcing the move of the US embassy to Jerusalem is going to have serious consequences -- nearly all positive.

Obama ignored the good people in Iran when they protested. I bet there will be a different reaction from President Trump.

When Jimmy Carter allowed the mullahs to take over Iran it was with the support of the Iranian young people.

I always felt that in another twenty or thirty years a new generation would spring up who would overthrow their mullah leaders.
They sprung up, unfortunately we had Obama. Now they are springing up again.
If the mullahs are overthrown, in another twenty or thirty years a new generation will be clamoring for them back.

What this says to me is the tyrants who rule Iran have no idea what President Trump is going to do ... and that unpredictability scares the hell out of them (and that’s a lot of “hell” to remove!)

I haven't heard anything that would make me believe that Trump is prepared to support the protesters militarily. Don't know whether or not they are expecting that, or if it would be in the U.S.'s best interest to do so.

I do hope we have a well thought out plan in place.

Heard years ago that lots of mullahs had prepared bug out bags containing shaving gear and Western business suits.

The MSM will soon be touting the invincibility of Basij and Revolutionary Guards. They don’t want an Iranian Spring because a hostile nuclear Iran is needed to put down American pride & arrogance, just as Obama intended.

Trump should tweet out his support for the Iranian uprising like say, every ten minutes?

Then watch media heads explode & Joe Scarborough commit ritual seppuku.

"The Iranian people see no value in the opportunistic remarks by American officials and Mr Trump," foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said on its website.

I'll wager some Iranian people see value in President Trump's and others' remarks. If for no other reason than to know that they have the attention of a world leader who will call the government on any efforts to start massacring its citizens.
