Multinational telecommunications conglomerate AT&T is expected to lay off more than 1,000 American workers, including those in the Midwest and South, while the company continues importing foreign workers. This week, AT&T announced that it would be laying off roughly 600 Americans across the Midwest, according to AppleInsider. Additionally, the company will lay off about 700 American workers with the AT&T subsidiary DirectTV and another 700 workers in the Texas and Missouri regions.
This month, AT&T also laid off about 215 American workers in nine southern states. Overall, according to AppleInsider, the layoffs are impacting Americans in California, Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.
Americans expecting to be handed a pink slip at the company told AppleInsider that they were given three weeks to find a lower-paying job inside the company or be permanently laid off.
While the multinational corporation lays off Americans, however, its subsidiaries have continued importing foreign workers through H-1B visas.

Nancy Pelosi will hold a press conference today after hearing this news, rescinding her criticism of them giving out bonuses, and will praise them for being a good citizen of the world.
OK, I need internet, wifi, cell phone access and television from patriotic American Providers. I’m in Arkansas any help?
This is not by mistake and it’s not for just the money.
We’re being exterminated.
Please not that sh*t again. I think that, as long as we have a country, we continue to hire foreigners.
We have become our own worst enemy.
As long as the employees are neither American nor white the left is fine with this. This needs to become an election issue where no punches are pulled and Trump needs to make it a bully pulpit twitter issue.
I strongly opposed any corporate tax cut unless it was accompanied with pro American employment, production and hiring policy. Corporate America (actually it is globalist not American) have proven to be untrustworthy. They need to face a sledge hammer of patriotism before they destroy us.
H1B has been abused enough that Trump should move strongly to cancel it entirely. As well as foreign student visas.
How often on this forum do I see Freepers celebrating the demise of the cable companies as people cut the cord? Yet when those same companies lay off workers that used to provide those services, it is seen as an attack on the American worker. You want AT&T to hire more American workers, then sign up for their triple play package. I’m pretty sure the H1Bs aren’t doing the cable installations and service calls.
Wrong.
In fact, due to redundant positions in the new merged company, AT&T will be laying off workers in some areas and hiring in others.
As is nearly always the case in M&A.
You’d have to cancel the entire guest worker program series. At minimum, anything connected to 20 CFR 655/20 CFR 656 would have to go.
AT&T has something like 273,000 employees. This is what ... a reduction of 0.363%? No layoff is good especially when it happens to you ... but this is not exactly a huge layoff.
What is Trump going to do about this??
AT&T should change to ‘Foreign Telephone and Telegraph’...
This crap needs to stop, at last until the unemployment rate for citizens is about 1%.
Typical USA _corporation_ action these days.
Then they plead for DC to allow more foreign workers in, since no USAians were hired. They weren’t hired because they were layed off to be replaced, specifically by foreign or members of diversity.
Know that these _corporations_ are not USAian anymore. Most of them are global institutions, pushing for global agendas and do not care about USA except as a market to sell things. Mostly they have large or dominate foreign ownership. Duh.
The layoff may not be significant, but the hiring of foreigners definitely is.

This practice needs to be shut down so hard companies are afraid to mentioned foreign countries by name. Each job handed to a cheap foreign laborer deprives and American fully capable of doing the job a paycheck. It has become a criminal practice.
Are you suggesting if we want American companies to hire American workers, we must purchase their products, and if not, we shouldn't bitch about them hire foreign nationals instead of Americans?
