The suspect entered the fast-food restaurant at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday with an off-white, plaid pillowcase over his head and a large kitchen knife in hand, Yuba City Police Department Lt. Jim Runyen said. He brushed past customers waiting in line and headed straight for the counter, where he pointed the knife at the cashier.
Before any money or goods were handed over, a customer grabbed a wooden chair, reached over and smashed it into the back of the suspects skull, sending him crumpling to the ground. The suspect popped up with no apparent injuries, Runyen said, and fled out the door into an old white sedan waiting with a getaway driver.

They just don't make chairs like they used to. Cheap Vietnamese junk. Fifty years ago one leg of that chair would have been sticking out of the thief's eye socket.

Great feel-good story! That customer should get a parade in his honor down the center of Yuba City - and free food from Wendy’s for life...
(although I suspect the local police will say he did “something foolish” and that customers shouldn’t do this).

Next time use a three-chair grouping to the head.

This was in California, did they arrest the customer?
He assaulted the robber and created a hostile work environment for him.

Probably an unlicensed assault chair.

I don’t know about you but I reside
close enough to Yuba City to suspect
that the local PD is pretty OK with
this “activist” customer.

Either Ikea or an old Hollywood bar fight chair.

How much does he expect to get away with. Not as desperate as he is stupid. Plus he had an accomplice? Conspiracy.

To: Lurkinanloomin; Mr. Lucky
In California, the law requires you to hit robbers with one-legged chairs. Anything more than one leg is considered a high capacity chair and you can wind up behind bars for a long time for such actions.

I love you guys who see California as some monolithic liberal $hit hole! He’s just lucky that the customer who hit him with the chair didn’t have a concealed weapon on him. Yuba County is one of 35 (out of 58) counties that issues CCW permits to pretty much anyone who asks.

“The suspect popped up with no apparent injuries, Runyen said, and fled out the door”
In Texas criminals don’t just ‘pop up’ and run after customers ‘take action’.
...but this is California.

A 45 ACP is better than a chair in a fight. Don’t bring a chair to a knife fight. Just lucky the chairsman is unhurt.
