A mysterious super PAC that spent millions of dollars backing Democrat Doug Jones in Alabama's Senate race was heavily funded by the Democratic Senate Majority PAC.

Chris Hayden, spokesman for the Senate Majority PAC, said Tuesday that the group was the primary backer of the PAC called Highway 31, which spent $6 million on hard-hitting advertising, mailings and other efforts to help defeat Republican Roy Moore. Because of reporting and payment schedules, Highway 31 didn't disclose its donors during the campaign despite its heavy spending.

"Yes, SMP was the contributor to Highway 31. There were a few small donations when Highway 31 became public, but it was predominantly funded by SMP," Hayden wrote in an email.

Hayden said the Senate Majority PAC implemented a comprehensive program that included: $1.5 million on digital advertising in partnership with Priorities USA; $2 million on television and radio; $2 million on a voter turnout operation in partnership with BlackPAC; $700,000 on direct mailings.

I think now we know how many votes $2 million will buy in Alabama if you grease the right palms.

This is the same outfit that had an ad removed from Youtube for attempted voter intimidation.

I’m sure they spent way more than $6 Million.

The law firm representing Leigh Corfman is owned by Ed Gentle, treasurer of the Alabama Democratic Party.

Which is neither here nor there to your comment. I just like to get that unreported info out.

I read that it was the (record) turn-out of Black females that beat Moore.

When 600,000+ people from Alabama who voted for Donald Trump in 2016 decide not to vote for the GOP Senate candidate in 2017, I think it’s safe to say that Democrat PAC efforts aren’t even worth discussing.

Bye Felicia.

BTW, Moore came within 1.5% of winning.

That says more about the voter profile in Alabama than anything else. Most Republicans couldn’t lose a statewide race there if they tried to throw the election. A Republican who loses in Alabama is like a Democrat losing in Chicago.

unless you count the WaPo story as a democrat PAC effort, which it probably was.

A forged yearbook fools a lot of people and $2 million to Black PAC buys a lot of votes.

I knew an Ed Ruffansore once.

He was treasurer of the Septic Pumpers Union till they fired him and he went scab.

Kind of a turd, but never took no crap from the Gentles, that’s for sure.

One thing WaPo never reported was that the treasurer of the Alabama Democratic Party, Ed Gentle, arranged for his law firm to represent the first Moore accuser.

Before she was a Moore accuser.

Ah ha. Those accusers did the job. I wonder if they’ll keep it up now that Roy Moore lost? Bet they’re quietly spending big bucks right now.

What’s amazing is that Roy Moore probably still would have won if he had even bothered to campaign like a real candidate down the stretch. Disappearing for weeks and refusing to debate your opponent is a strong indication that you have no interest in actually winning the election at all.

And the bad this is, now that they know it works, they’ll do it over and over again.
