A flight that was four hours into its course, bound for Tokyo's Narita Airport Tuesday, had to return to its origin of Los Angeles International Airport after an 'unauthorized person' was on-board.

The flight from LAX to Tokyo is about 12 hours long. The total time for the flight to take off and return was just over eight hours.

Will put this one under "Breaking News" as this is a very strange occurrence. A Los Angeles flight to Tokyo was diverted 4 hours into the flight and made to return to U.S. due to an "unauthorized passenger" on board.

You would think under normal circumstances, the flight would land in Tokyo and the unauthorized passenger could be taken into custody there.

Seems to me this is an extreme measure and bears watching. Who was on board that warranted that the entire flight be returned to the U.S. four hours after takeoff?

They probably made the decision because they were only 4 hours away when they discovered the issue. Maybe someone on a no-fly list that wasn’t caught at first?

Good grief, that would suck. I have a long flight there in a few months; I can’t imagine having to restart.

Hillary Clinton ?

Barack Obama ?

James Comey ?

The list goes on and on.

Seems like the feces are about to meet the coal powered wind device.

'They keep saying the person had a United ticket. We are on ANA. So basically the boarding pass scanner is just a beedoop machine that makes beedoop noises that register to nowhere,' Teigen tweeted.

I think you are right. No need to go the extradition route this way.

I’m flying from LA to Shanghai in a couple of weeks, connecting to Bangkok. Man, having the flight turn around and miss the next flight would be frustrating.

"Only 4 hours away" is actually 8 hours plus for the other passengers on board. Most likely at least an hour or two more on the ground in between as the plane gets refueled and serviced.

This seems out of the ordinary for me. Wouldn't it make sense to detain the person in Tokyo so that the rest of the passengers could arrive at their destination on time?

Unless the circumstances warranted. Perhaps somebody high profile trying to flee the country?
