House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes and other Republicans are considering writing a report next year alleging corruption at the FBI, The Washington Post has reported.
Such a report would focus on the conduct of FBI officials during the probe into Russia’s meddling in last year’s American presidential election, according to people familiar with the plans.
This comes as President Donald Trump and his supporters in Congress have intensified their attacks on the FBI, which is seen by many as a way to try and discredit special counsel Robert Mueller, the former leader of the bureau, and bring into doubt any findings he may come up with in the Russia election meddling investigation should they be damaging to the Trump administration.
Rep. Adam Schiff, who is the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, explained the GOP plan to CNN’s “State of the Union.”
The Republicans’ “intent here is not to do oversight,” Schiff said. “The intent here is nothing short of discrediting Mueller, then discrediting the Justice Department, then discrediting the FBI, then discrediting the judiciary, should the judiciary convict some of the people that Mueller has charged or may charge in the future," adding that the GOP criticisms are "an effort to tear at the very idea that there is an objective truth."

Remember how much we learned from the GSA OIG reports? How many times have we been sold that some group of politicians say they will be doing?
I would be more disposed to have more advance confidence from the OIG than a politician, but both have equal opportunities to overwhelm or disappoint.
Schiff is a weasel. Little crosseyed runt. When Nunes was apprised of information last spring, Schiff claimed Nunes spread classified information. Nunes had to wait 8 months until he was cleared in an investigation. He had to step down as Chair of the Intelligence Committee. Now he is taking Schiff to task. Schiff has never backed Trump and never will He is begging for help to bury the information and he is fighting a losing battle.

A Short History of Special Counsels and Presidents
Congress let the independent counsel statute lapse in 1999—shortly after Clinton’s impeachment and acquittal.
Both before and after taking on the job, Starr was on record opposing the law, believing it didn’t include enough checks to ensure accountability.
“There was a serious challenge to the law. When I was part of the Reagan administration, we argued independent counsel provisions were unconstitutional,” Starr said of the 1978 Ethics in Government Act, which formally created the office of independent counsel.
The Supreme Court didn’t agree, upholding the law in the 1988 case of Morrison v. Olson.
“I was asked. I viewed it as a call to serve, and the Supreme Court had upheld the law,” Starr said of his accepting the assignment six years later.
The Congressional reports are going to be much more revealing, despite the DOJ’s attempts to block their subpoenas at every turn, refusing to answer questions in testimony, etc. Congressman Stewart said a couple of days ago that “heads are going to explode” when they are released.

Are you watching Hannity right this minute? Both Greg Jarrett and Niger Ellis are saying that the DOJ cannot be trusted to investigate itself. The woman there with them agrees that not only has the current DOJ oversight committee sent a letter to Sessions demanding it, others such as Issa are calling for it too. The President’s lawyer Jay Sekulow isn’t there (yet?) tonight, but he has been outspoken asking for a special prosecutor as well.
That’s where the President’s true allies want this to go, whether you and the DOJ don’t want any outsiders with indictment power poking around in their dirty laundry, or not.

I’ve been hearing that this IG Horowitz is the “fixer” and the biggest swamp monster of them all. He’s there to shove stuff under the carpet and pull the wool over our eyes in order to preserve the swamp.
I never said I was against the appointment of a special counsel. In fact, I specified that there must be strict guide rails to such an investigation clearly defining its purpose and perhaps even giving a deadline. I stated as clearly as I could that IGs are internal investigations and the tendency is to protect the institution. The coming IG report that should be released in January will no doubt be a damning condemnation of the way Comey handled the Clinton email investigation. But I doubt it will go far enough.
Mueller is a special counsel who proves my point. He is part of the swamp and he will do what is necessary to protect DOJ and the FBI, which he headed for 12 years.
The question is who could serve as a special counsel/independent prosecutor. Everyone brings a certain amount of baggage to what is essentially a political assignment. Depending on whose ox is being gored, the special counsel will be the target of either Reps or Dems. The Dems called for Starr's removal, Cox was removed by Nixon, Lawrence Walsh clearly had a political agenda, and I could go on and on.
I have never worked for the DOJ or the FBI.
