Good Riddance, Evangelicalism Incorporated
American Thinker.com ^ | December 22, 2017 | Robert Oscar Roberts

Trump's base in 2016 was defined not by race or class, but by belief in God. Evangelical Christians and Catholics came together and pushed Trump to the win, in defiance of the media, academia, Hollywood, the professional class, elite Republicans, the Democrat masses, libertarians, and self-professed moralists.

Both the pope and many prominent Protestant leaders expressed antagonism toward Trump, so this mass of religious voters defied their church elders as well.

This was nothing less than stunning. It was perhaps one of the great revolutions in America's religious history. Rather than a serious study of this event, we have had a spasmic flood of pedantry from the very people whose authority these Christian voters rejected in the first place.

I count myself among evangelical Trump voters. As I am sure this issue is for almost everyone in America, the historical questions feel very personal.

I resent being mocked and reviled by secular liberals who I know hate all religion.

My patience has worn thin with people claiming to embrace a new liberal Christianity that I recognize as a warmed over version of the liberation theology my radical leftist family held in the 1970s and 1980s.

Conservative Christians who position themselves as valiant defenders of the Bible and Trump opponents have been exposed in brutal ways as the "Evangelical Deep State."

Many so-called conservative Christians pulled a fast one on Alabama by handing a Senate seat to Doug Jones to banish Roy Moore for sins he probably never committed. But my prediction is that in upcoming months, Doug Jones's radical sexual agenda will terrify many Christians in Alabama. Black Christians will realize the Democrats will do nothing for them, while the national anti-Moore Christian voices will be remembered as detestable traitors.

As the Pope hardly represents Christianity anymore, it should probably be clarified that Catholics voted in line with the Church’s official teachings instead of the political opinions (with no foundation in scripture) of the Pope du jour.

Hillary famously called Christians “homophobes” and “deplorable.” In another speech she said they had to be “re-educated” to accept abortion. What did she expect would be the reaction?

Couldn't agree more! Nearly all Western religions have become "Go Along to Get Along" organizations devoid of much of the moral compass guidance of yesteryear! "Transactional Morality" has been in vogue for many years! Just rationalize whatever the issue is without being "Judgemental"!

That’s right, and my town now has plenty of empty churches from those other Western churches.

Yep. I think that abortion an homosexual
“Marriage” are the moral issues that allow us to clearly see the truth...to see the goats from the sheep.

Good post, Kaslin. "My patience has worn thin with people claiming to embrace a new liberal Christianity."

Unfortunately, we see this in the SBC and "bible-based" churches as well: the sad case of Jennifer Hatmaker, the guy that was run out of Mars Hill Church, Rob Bell, etc. Also never heard of Tim Keller....apparently not that famous!

For me, it was very easy to ignore the modern antipope, Francis.

PCUSA is about as left wing as as it gets.

The 2016 race was defined mainly by racial issues, not religion.

What nonsnese. Black voters in Alabama will regret voting for Jones? No they won’t. Why does the author say that Evangelicals who voted for Trump were “defying” libertarians? Ron Paul supporters were at the core of Trump’s earliest supporters. Evangeliclas only got on board the Trump train when it was clear he was going to win.

A lot of the Protestant churches in my area (which far outnumbered the Catholic ones, because there were so many different groups) are now either closed or have been sold to Hispanic evangelical groups. One of them is rented out to an “Anglican Catholic” group that seems to be just former Catholics “playing Catholic” in an Anglican church; another is used by an “American National Catholic Church”, which is just former Catholics fabricating a church with all of the heresies demanded by American liberals (female “priestesses” and such).

You're wrong about the evangelicals getting on the train late. Falwell Jr., Perkins, Graham, Dobson, Wildmon and others were on board from the very beginning of his campaign. He had a very aggressive outreach effort to evangelicals from the start.

libertarians, and self-professed moralists.

I couldn’t read this moralist self-professing screed in its entirety. It’s strange because I read Sinclair Lewis’s Elmer Gantry evangelical hoo-hah with pleasure. Must be a difference in writing skills.

As for this libertarian, I am delighted to have helped elect Trump to the presidency and imagine there are legions of libertarians like myself.

So while the author goes about his look-at-me-I’m-Christan charade of bashing those who do not sit entirely in his pew, I can only say, “We won. Enjoy the ride or get off the train.”

Sure, fair enough. Clearly, Trump was not the most conservative candidate going into the 2016 race. However when he locked the nomination, Christian conservatives fell in line. That said, he has exceeded the best of our expectations. Praise God!

John 10:13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

Tim Keller is a hireling. Frightened by the how liberals view the fundamentals of Jesus Christ, repulsed by the conservatism of Christian Republicans, he has become the voice of the Christian moderate "middle." In other words a hiring, who flees when the wolf comes.

What is the Christian moderate middle? These are the social justice Christians. The multicultural Christians. The Christians who eschew divisive politics in favor of bridge building. Sounds great, right? Yes, but only until people realize that truth must be cast to the ground and stomped like pearls before swine! Why do they allow truth to be trampled in favor bridge building? Fear. Fear of the Zeitgeist. Never wanting to be the "bad" guys in the eyes of the LGBTQIXXX world we now live in.

This is the group that claims to not advocate LGBTQIXXXX practices, but they will never condemn them. Abortion was long ago sent to the issue trash heap by this group because it is a settled "non-issue". Its legal! This is the group that will strain the gnat of Donald Trump's locker room comments, but swallow the entire Obama-Clinton Chrislamic/Communist/Spirit Cooking belief system. They will reject good men like Judge Roy Moore/Clarence Thomas for questionable accusations, while tacitly endorsing infanticide murderers like Doug Jones.

It is because of hirelings like Tim Keller that the Church is precipitously sliding away from the Word of God. It is men like this who have shepherded the Church to apostasy, leading to the great "falling away" spoken of in 2 Thess 2. The good news is that the good shepherd is coming soon to judge all of us, including the hirelings. Pastor Tim will soon be relieved of duty, and the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, will take the place of all shepherds, good or bad. But only for those who cling to truth even at the cost of public opinion, convenience, and possibly their life!

I don’t give a rip anymore...I quit organized religion about 55-60 years ago. I do sort of halfway follow and enjoy the downfall of all these various denominations. This doesn’t affect my underlying beliefs but I don’t suffer fools gladly.
