Dick Enberg, the Hall of Fame broadcaster whose "Oh my!" calls rang familiar with so many sports fans, has died, his wife and daughter confirmed Thursday night. He was 82.

I found that annoying. I think I became jaded listening to Vin Scully and Chick Hearn. Enberg was an amateur compared to them.

He, Billy Packer, and Al McGuire were the best college basketball announcing team ever, IMO.

Dick also hosted an NBC TV game show called "3 For The Money". Here's a clip from an episode of the show which had a very brief run in 1975.

Sept 1965 outside of Phoenix. I remember laying in bed in the room I shared with my brother, both of us listening to Scully on the transistor radio while Koufax threw his 4th no hitter. Mom kept coming in and telling us we had to get to sleep because we had school the next day..but we heard him finish the perfect game.

Seems very sudden after being the Padres’ play-by-play man just a year or so ago. He was key to the growth of college basketball broadcasting in the 60s and 70s, then a great NFL announcer in the 80s and 90s. He once said baseball was his favorite sport to announce.

RIP Dick. A true professional.
