Christopher Steele, the former British spy who fueled an ongoing investigation into President Trumps administration, was a lot more confident of his charges when he wrote his now-notorious 2016 dossier than he is today in defending it in a libel lawsuit.
While Mr. Steele stated matter-of-factly in his dossier that collusion between Mr. Trump and the Russian government took place, he called it only possible months later in court filings. While he confidently referred to trusted sources inside the Kremlin, in court he referred to the dossiers limited intelligence.
In recent weeks, the dossier of opposition research has taken on added importance in the debate over the FBI and special counsel Robert Muellers investigation into suspected Russia coordination and whether it is biased against Trump people. Congressional Republicans are demanding that the FBI explain how the deeply contested, Democrat-financed document took on such importance in a major government investigation.
Mr. Steele wrote 35 pages of memos in which he said Trump aides were part of a vast conspiracy with Moscow to interfere in the election against Hillary Clinton. The unverified charges were spread by Fusion GPS, the Washington-based political research firm that first commissioned the report. Mr. Steele bragged to Mother Jones magazine that he started the Mueller investigation by convincing FBI agents that summer about the credibility of his dossier.
It was later revealed that the campaign of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton helped fund the dossier, meaning that in essence her paid agent was spreading unsubstantiated charges to get to the FBI to investigate her opponent, critics say.
Now that Mr. Steele must defend those charges in a London courtroom, his confidence level has shifted down several notches.

Its convenient to believe Steele, that the dossier is based on Russian sources. Because that means Hillary was colluding with Russia to throw the election.
But being as it is a fake document, it required no input from anyone at all.
My question is, did Steele even write it, or was he merely paid a fee to sign it and lend his name to it?
For all we know, it was written by Fusion. They received (apparently) $9 million for writing it, paid supposedly a hundred grand to Steele... which for a couple hours of work is a pretty good lick.
So where did the rest of the money go? Fusion is taking in millions from DNC and the Russians (they were also on contract to the Russians)... This smells like money laundering.
It also smells like espionage. In the modern age, espionage is done in a hyper-legal way, with all IRS forms filed, check-boxes checked, i’s dotted and t’s crossed. Its all right out in the open.
Round them all up. We’re gonna need more prisons!
Someone committed a crime.
Use the Michael Flynn, Scooter Libby, or Martha Stewart approach....find a simple lie to a Federal LEO and the bust the doors down at 3:00am.
The blow back heat from this bomb is continuing to reflect on Mr. Steele. May it scorch the ComDem conduit from which it was transferred, including McCain.
We now know that the Russian lawyer who tried to set up Trump Jr was Fusion. And we know that FBI was using Fusion to generate the evidence they needed to justify an otherwise illegal surveillance... So is Fusion DNC, or Russian FSB, or US Deep State, or simply the point where these interests converge, and the means of getting everyone involved legally paid?
Since this was a pornographic fantasy piece written out of whole cloth by Fusion-GPS employees, I think we will soon find out that Mrs. Ohr is into golden showers.
Is he being sued in American or British courts? The bar is lower in England for libel.
Since Nellie Ohr is CIA and then put on the Fusion payroll, the CIA could have written the whole thing.
Get that muzzie Brennan...
The dossier was ginned up by the FBI as an insurance policy against Trump. If he got in, the FBI was going to hold it over his head as leverage/ blackmail. It didnt work. It didnt stay hidden. And Trump wasnt going to quietly do what the FBI wanted. The FBI has been playing the blackmail game since Hoover. Its time to fumigate the agency.
What I found interesting is that Hillary would fund the Steele Dossier with several million dollars and end up with a document that was, according to Steele, not to be disclosed.
I think that is new news.
What other purpose would it have? To launch an FBI Investigation while dribbling out tidbits from the report and its very existence to the MSM?
Im thinking the FBI Investigation was Primary. It happened. The MSM was pretty quiet on the subject leading up to the election.
Someone should ask Hillary about that theory.

Looks like England ... if the bar is lower, that’s a good thing in this case.
Now that is really interesting. I wonder if this libel case is a smokescreen...
What we have is an illegal surveillance of Obama’s political opposition. This is normal for Obama; historically he always has the goods on his opposition. It is also normal for the Clintons, they spent enormous amounts of money and energy investigating people. They always had the goods on people who might be potential trouble.
FBI has 35000 agents who can do investigations; why would they have to use an outside contractor to do the dirty work? Because what they were doing was patently dishonest and they knew it. They couldn’t trust their own agents to do it. So they used outside contractors.
Without Fusion’s fake content this is an illegal operation, which means everyone involved faces career-ending legal jeopardy. Mueller has to find something. He has to “Scooter-Libby” someone, or people close to him go to jail.
In the Uk, it seems like celebs are always suing each other for libel. It’s the only area where they seem as litigious as Americans.
“I think we will soon find out that Mrs. Ohr is into golden showers.”
Eewww... Have you seen that Gorgon? Connecting that face with anything pornographic is maximum creepy.
Obama Approves US "Libel Tourist" Laws
It means US courts can refuse to enforce any foreign libel judgements.
It’s a good thing unless this court case is being used for something other than obtaining justice for the plaintiff.
